Savannah Guthrie<\/strong><\/a> was initially nervous about joining the hit morning show Today <\/i><\/a>in the midst of a \u201ctransitional period.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was waiting to do my live shot on a Supreme Court case on Nightly News, <\/i>and the president of NBC at the time called me down to his office at 6:00,\u201d Guthrie, 53, said on the Friday, September 12, episode of Jason Kennedy<\/strong>\u2019s eponymous podcast<\/a>, referring to her 2012 job offer. \u201cThe news goes on at 6:30, [and] I thought it was a little odd.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Guthrie entered the then-network president\u2019s office, he handed her a news <\/i>article discussing then-Today <\/i>anchor Ann Curry<\/strong>\u2019s plans to leave the show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c[This] was news to me, and then he started talking to me about that job,\u201d she said. \u201cHonestly, I didn\u2019t even know what he was saying. \u2026 He was, kind of, talking around it, \u2018It\u2019s not an easy situation, but this is good, and any other day we\u2019d be jumping up and down for you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBeing promoted to coanchor of Today was a bittersweet achievement for Savannah Guthrie, who took over the role after Ann Curry exited the show. \u201cI came at a time of a lot of controversy for the show, and it wasn\u2019t, I don\u2019t think, a happy occasion, really \u2014 for anyone, including me,\u201d Guthrie, 53, shared [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After Guthrie was formally offered the anchor job, she wasn\u2019t sure whether to accept the position.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said, \u2018Do you want it?\u2019 And I said, \u2018I don\u2019t know,\u2019\u201d Guthrie explained. \u201cOf course I wanted it [because] it was my lifelong dream \u2014 actually higher than my lifelong dream, but I also knew that it was a terrible moment for the network and the show. It was the worst possible moment for the network and for the show, and it was a terrible time.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Guthrie, it would be \u201cthe worst possible scenario\u201d to start a job on the broadcast amid Curry\u2019s abrupt departure.<\/p>\n
