Despite many calls to ban Israel, they were allowed to take part in this year and last year\u2019s competition. Ireland\u2019s national broadcaster RT\u00c9 said in a statement: &#8220;RTE feels that Ireland&#8217;s participation would be unconscionable given the ongoing and appalling loss of lives in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;RTE is also deeply concerned by the targeted killing of journalists in Gaza, and the denial of access to international journalists to the territory, and the plight of the remaining hostages.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So far the European Broadcasting Union is \u201cconsulting\u201d on how to \u201cmanage participation and geopolitical tensions.\u201d Countries have until mid-December to decide to withdraw from the contest.
