{"id":19230,"date":"2023-05-22T03:00:38","date_gmt":"2023-05-22T03:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/22\/patient21-a-digital-healthcare-startup-with-brick-and-mortar-clinics-raises-108m-to-grow-beyond-germany\/"},"modified":"2023-05-22T03:00:38","modified_gmt":"2023-05-22T03:00:38","slug":"patient21-a-digital-healthcare-startup-with-brick-and-mortar-clinics-raises-108m-to-grow-beyond-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/22\/patient21-a-digital-healthcare-startup-with-brick-and-mortar-clinics-raises-108m-to-grow-beyond-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Patient21, a digital healthcare startup with brick-and-mortar clinics, raises $108M to grow beyond Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<div class=\"article__featured-image-wrapper breakout\">\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\"><a href=\"https:\/\/patient21.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patient21<\/a>, a four-year-old German startup that combines a digital healthcare platform with real-world brick-and-mortar clinics, has raised \u20ac100 million ($108 million) in a Series C round of funding led by Israeli VC firm <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pitango\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pitango<\/a>, constituting a mix of equity and debt.<\/p>\n<p>Founded out of Berlin in 2019, Patient21\u2019s platform spans pretty much the whole patient cycle, from online bookings through digital case histories, check-ins, billing, insurance, and more.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2019\/06\/13\/zava-bags-32m-to-expand-its-ai-free-telehealth-service-in-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">while telemedicine<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/04\/27\/kry-closes-312m-series-d-after-use-of-its-telehealth-tools-surged-100-yoy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">been on something<\/a> of an <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2016\/08\/01\/the-drivers-behind-digital-health-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upwards trajectory<\/a> in recent years, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/04\/02\/fcc-enacts-200m-telehealth-initiative-to-ease-covid-19-burden-on-hospitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accelerated somewhat<\/a> by the global pandemic, Patient21\u2019s platform is notable insofar as it <em>doesn\u2019t<\/em> offer a remote healthcare option like its <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/11\/10\/carbon-health-raises-100-million-with-plans-to-expand-pop-up-clinics-ahead-of-covid-19-vaccination-programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. counterpart Carbon Health<\/a>. Instead, the company has developed proprietary software for managing patients, and then steers them toward its 50-plus outpatient clinics across Germany.<\/p>\n<p>This is partly because Patient21 is largely focused on dentistry for the time-being, with more than 80% of its clinics currently targeting oral health, with the rest split between gynaecology and GP practices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDentistry inherently requires in-person consultations for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment,\u201d Patient21 co-founder and CEO Chris Muhr told TechCrunch. \u201cThe nature of dentistry involves visually inspecting oral health, utilizing diagnostic tools like x-rays, and addressing emergencies promptly.
