Charlie Kirk<\/strong>, the conservative firebrand and founder of Turning Point USA, has died after being shot at an event at Utah Valley University, according to multiple media reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n President Donald Trump<\/strong> also announced Kirk\u2019s death, writing<\/a> on Truth Social, \u201cThe Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.\u201d A broad and bipartisan chorus of voices rose to condemn the seeming act of political violence.<\/p>\n Vice President JD Vance<\/strong> posted<\/a> a photo of him with Kirk, writing \u201cDear God, protect Charlie in his darkest hour.\u201d<\/p>\n California Governor Gavin Newsom<\/strong> posted<\/a> that the attack was \u201cdisgusting, vile, and reprehensible,\u201d moments after news broke. “In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form.\u201d<\/p>\n On Fox News, still the standard bearer for the conservative media landscape from which Kirk rose, there was an added element of proximity. Kirk was a frequent presence on the network\u2019s shows, appearing on Will Cain<\/strong>\u2019s program as recently as Tuesday.<\/a> Immediately after the channel broke the news of Kirk\u2019s shooting to viewers, contributor Jason Chaffetz<\/strong>, the former Utah congressman, called into the network with an eyewitness account, having been in attendance at Kirk\u2019s America\u2019s Comeback tour which started on Wednesday.<\/p>\n \u201cI was watching Charlie,” Chaffetz said after catching his breath from running away from the scene to safety. \u201cI can\u2019t say that I saw blood. I can\u2019t say that I saw him get hit, but I did see him fall immediately backwards into his left. And I can just hope and pray that somehow he survives that.\u201d<\/p>\n When former FBI special agent and Fox News contributor, Nicole Parker<\/strong>, joined the network in the immediate aftermath of the attack, she also turned to prayer first, telling viewers \u201cThat is all we have right now. We have the power of prayer.\u201d Parker mentioned an \u201cabsolutely horrifying,\u201d video of the shooting that was already circulating on social media, which she urged the audience not to watch, though it will \u201cbe key for law enforcement to have all of that video as evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n She relayed that a witness told her that just prior to the attack, a question was asked by one of the attendees about how many school shootings had been carried out by transgender people in the last decade, \u201cAnd then the next thing you know, the witness heard a gunshot.\u201d<\/p>\n A pair of witnesses on the scene in Utah were also caught by Fox reporters with cameras, one who said while she heard the victim was a \u201cpretty big influencer,\u201d she wasn\u2019t sure what happened. \u201cI really don’t want this to happen again,\u201d she continued. The other witness chimed in, adding \u201cI think the focus of this should probably be on, probably supporting some sort of gun control, or something like that, so that things like this can’t happen.\u201d Fox played the clip at least two more times after it first aired.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
