Platonic<\/em>\u2018s newest episode had a surprising amount of Justin Timberlake<\/strong><\/a> nods \u2014 including a dance number.<\/p>\n

During the Wednesday, September 10, episode of the hit Apple TV+ series, Charlie\u2019s (Luke Macfarlane<\/strong>) law firm threw a retirement party for his boss that took an unexpected turn<\/a>. The event kicked off with Charlie and his fellow coworkers showing a video they made for their boss, which featured a performance to Timberlake\u2019s \u201cCan\u2019t Stop the Feeling!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was all built around this idea that if you work at a really boring office and they were going to make a video, what would be the lamest video that a bunch of 45- to 60-year-old people would do to think that they were cool,\u201d Macfarlane, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em>. \u201cAnd no disrespect to Justin Timberlake, but we all decided that it would be funny if it was a bunch of 50-year-olds singing the lyrics to a song that\u2019s a little bit past its prime. There\u2019s no chaperone at this office, let\u2019s just say that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The party concluded with a speech from Charlie, which he used to announce his own retirement. He later had a conversation with wife Sylvia (Rose Byrne<\/strong>) about next steps since she was worried about supporting them as the only breadwinner in the family.<\/p>\n

Based on the novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen, Bad Monkey follows former police detective Andrew [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think so,\u201d Charlie told Sylvia. \u201cI\u2019ve got this feeling inside my bones.\u201d The lyrics to Timberlake\u2019s song quickly transitioned to a follow-up rendition of \u201cCan\u2019t Stop the Feeling!\u201d<\/a> as the credits played.<\/p>\n

Platonic, which premiered in May 2023, explores a rekindled friendship between former childhood best friends \u2014 Will (Seth Rogen<\/strong>) and Sylvia (Byrne) \u2014 as adults. Macfarlane plays Sylvia\u2019s husband, Charlie, who is going through a midlife crisis.<\/p>\n

Earlier this season, Charlie got the chance to make it big on Jeopardy!<\/em><\/a> \u2014 only to fumble the opportunity at the last second.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a big fan of Jeopardy! [So filming this] \u2014 I don\u2019t even think our incredible writers knew that about me. But I knew exactly how the show worked. In fact, I think I even gave them a couple of suggestions,\u201d Macfarlane recalled. \u201cI was like, \u2018I think it would actually make more sense if we kind of did it just the way the show works.\u2019 But I love the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI was a huge fan of [host] Ken Jennings. Most of my preparation was, \u2018Don\u2019t be a complete nerd in front of Ken Jennings.\u2019 What a cool dude. He was just bright, funny and awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n
