It\u2019s not the years, it\u2019s the mileage! Harrison Ford<\/strong><\/a> defended the de-aging technology used on him during a flashback sequence in his new film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny<\/em>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI know that that is my face,\u201d Ford, 80, said in a press conference after a screening of the action flick at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival<\/a> earlier this weekend. \u201cIt\u2019s not a kind of Photoshop magic \u2014 that\u2019s what I looked like 35 years ago. Because Lucasfilm has every frame of film that we\u2019ve made together over all of these years. And this process, this scientific mining of this library, this was put to good [use].\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While some have criticized the use of de-aging technology<\/a> over hiring younger actors for flashback scenes, the Shrinking<\/em> star explained that the decision sometimes makes sense \u2014 especially when it helps audiences emotionally resonate with a character.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s just a trick unless it\u2019s supported by a story, and it sticks out like a sore thumb if it\u2019s not honest, it\u2019s not real,\u201d he continued. \u201cI mean, emotionally real. And so I think it was used very skillfully.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Ford has portrayed the titular character of Indiana Jones since Raiders of the Lost Ark<\/em> in 1981. He returned for 1984\u2019s Temple of Doom<\/em>, 1989\u2019s Last Crusade<\/em> and 2008\u2019s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull<\/em>.\u00a0<\/span>Dials of Destiny<\/em> marks his fifth time in the role \u2014 and what he plans to be his last.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIs it not evident?\u201d Ford joked when asked if this will be his last time putting on the legendary fedora<\/a>. \u201cI need to sit down and rest a little bit. I love to work, and I love this character, and I love what it brought into my life, and that\u2019s all I can say.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The Witness<\/em> star previously got candid about saying goodbye to the character during an interview with Total Film<\/em><\/a> in April.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I\u2019ll play the character,\u201d he shared at the time. \u201cI anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a film \u2026 I have been ambitious to do this film for 10 years, and there finally came a time when we all committed to that. It was a joyous moment for me. I think it\u2019s a rare situation that I find myself in it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While the Star Wars<\/em> actor \u2014 who also bid farewell to Hans Solo after reprising the role for 2015\u2019s\u00a0Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/em> \u2014 said he\u2019s \u201chappy\u201d with how the de-aging sequence in Dial of Destiny<\/em> turned out, the idea of actually rewinding time isn\u2019t something he\u2019d be interested in pursuing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t look back and say, \u2018I wish I was that guy again,\u2019 because I don\u2019t,\u201d he explained after the film\u2019s premiere. \u201cI\u2019m real happy with age. I love being older. It was great to be young, but s\u2014tfire I could be dead, and I\u2019m still working.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Ford has been busy in recent years. In addition to bidding farewell to Jones and Solo, he returned for the 2017 Blade<\/em> reboot and has starred in multiple critically acclaimed TV series including Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> prequel 1923<\/em> and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>AppleTV+\u2019s Shrinking<\/em>, which was recently picked up for a second season.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Off screen, Ford has also balanced being a dedicated husband, father and stepdad in his personal life. He tied the knot with <\/span>wife Calista Flockhart<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in June 2010 after seven years of dating<\/a> and later adopted Flockhart\u2019s son, Liam, who was born in 2001. The<\/span>\u00a0<\/i>Firewall<\/em> actor also shares sons Benjamin, 56, and Willard, 54,\u00a0 with his first wife, Mary Marquardt<\/strong>, and is dad to son Malcolm, 35, and daughter Georgia, 32, whom he shares with second wife Melissa Mathison<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In June 2003, Ford opened up about his relationship with the 58-year-old Ally McBeal<\/em> alum \u2014 who is 22 years his junior \u2014 saying that sparks can fly between two people at any age.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m in love,\u201d he gushed to Hello!<\/em> magazine at the time. \u201cRomantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love, and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life. I was not surprised that I was able to fall in love, and I wasn\u2019t surprised that I did.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
