Is Archie Andrews moonlighting as a disco-pop star? That\u2019s what TikTok is trying to figure out as fans spiral over the mysterious new performer known as \u201cMr. Fantasy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The buzz began on August 19, when \u201cMr. Fantasy\u201d posted his very first TikTok<\/a>. \u201cHello TikTok. Hello Los Angeles. Hello world,\u201d he greeted viewers in a black wig and English accent. Instantly, fans thought they recognized him \u2014 insisting that Mr. Fantasy was none other than Riverdale<\/em> star KJ Apa<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Apa, a New Zealand-born actor who played Archie Andrews for seven seasons and recently starred in the romantic drama The Map That Leads to You<\/em> alongside Madelyn Cline<\/strong>, has not confirmed or denied the speculation. But eagle-eyed fans are convinced.<\/p>\n Some TikTok users argue Mr. Fantasy doesn\u2019t quite match Apa\u2019s usual look, pointing out differences in hair and teeth. Others, however, are certain. \u201cIf not kj apa why kj apa tattoos,\u201d one fan commented, noting that Apa\u2019s signature ink is clearly visible in many of Mr. Fantasy\u2019s videos.<\/p>\n The wait is over. Then, on September 2, he released \u201cpart one\u201d of a music video for his first track, simply titled \u201cMr. Fantasy.\u201d The colorful video showed him parading through Los Angeles in vibrant costumes, while the disco-inspired track dropped on Apple Music and Spotify.<\/p>\n And fans are here for it. \u201cWhy is this song actually so good,\u201d one person wrote. Another added, \u201cIt\u2019s been on repeat honestly.\u201d Even Apa\u2019s Riverdale<\/em> costar Lili Reinhart<\/strong> couldn\u2019t resist chiming in, commenting, \u201cOh my God\u201d under one clip<\/a>.<\/p>\n To make the mystery even stranger, the Mr. Fantasy TikTok account only follows James Franco<\/strong> fan pages \u2014 something commenters found hilarious. \u201cThis is the wildest thing a celebrity has done in a while,\u201d one joked.<\/p>\n If Mr. Fantasy really is KJ Apa, it wouldn\u2019t be the first time he\u2019s leaned into an alter ego. During Riverdale<\/em>\u2019s run, he often posted comedy skits online under the persona \u201cFifi,\u201d a name that lives on as his official TikTok handle, @fifiisqueen. He\u2019s also no stranger to music \u2014 in addition to singing throughout Riverdale,<\/em> he released the indie rock album Clocks<\/em> in 2021.<\/p>\n \u201cMusic has very much been my way to express myself here in Vancouver,\u201d Apa told NME<\/em> in 2021. \u201cWhen you\u2019re on a set and you\u2019re playing a character for so long, there\u2019s a lot of rules and guidelines and directions that you have to follow that you don\u2019t necessarily get a lot of say in.
