On Tuesday, NBC announced that it\u2019s adding Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson,<\/strong>\u00a0and Veronika Slowikowska<\/strong> to the cast of the long-running sketch series.<\/p>\n After SNL<\/em>\u2019s 50th season\u2014which included two major televised specials in the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert<\/em><\/a> and SNL50: The Anniversary Special<\/em><\/a>\u2014rumors swirled that Lorne Michaels<\/strong> was looking to reshape the cast in a major way. Last week, a raft of departures were announced: Emil Wakim<\/strong> leaves the series after a single season. Devon Walker<\/strong> and Michael Longfellow<\/strong> have both departed after three years with the program. Most surprisingly of all\u2014unless you\u2019ve been paying attention<\/a>\u2014longtime cast member Heidi Gardner<\/strong> announced she\u2019d be leaving Saturday Night Live<\/em> after eight seasons as one of the show\u2019s most visible faces.<\/p>\n With room on the roster, Michaels has made good on his promise to shake things up, hiring five rising comedians to join the cast as featured players. But who made the cut, and why does one of them look so familiar? Here\u2019s a breakdown of SNL<\/em>\u2019s newest cast members.<\/p>\n Ben Marshall<\/strong><\/p>\n Marshall may be technically new to the show\u2019s cast, but he isn\u2019t new to Saturday Night Live.<\/em> In 2021, he boarded the show as part of the comedy troupe Please Don\u2019t Destroy, along with his partners Martin Herlihy<\/strong> and John Higgins.<\/strong> Together, the trio made digital shorts for SNL,<\/em> \u00e0 la The Lonely Island<\/a> from the early aughts; several of those videos, including \u201cRoast\u201d with Dakota Johnson<\/strong><\/a>,<\/strong> went viral.<\/p>\n Now Marshall is getting bumped up to featured player, while Herlihy\u2014whose father, Tim Herlihy,<\/strong> wrote for SNL<\/em> and is a frequent Adam Sandler<\/strong> collaborator\u2014is reportedly<\/a> sticking around as a writer for season 51. Higgins, whose father Steve Higgins<\/strong> is a longtime writer and producer on SNL<\/em> as well as the announcer for The Tonight Show,<\/em> is leaving the show to pursue other acting projects. So Marshall will be on his own on Saturday Night Live<\/em> for the first time this year\u2014but he\u2019s got four years of SNL<\/em> experience under his belt.
