What did it look like at the end of a hard day for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n The hardest parts are the night shoots, because I\u2019m useless after a certain hour anyway. I\u2019m not a night owl. Everybody\u2019s a different beast. But they were really the true night shoots, where we\u2019d see the sun come up, and you\u2019d sleep all day\u2014I\u2019d come home to my little hotel room. At one point they said, \u201cDo you want to stay at the hotel where we\u2019re filming?\u201d Because that\u2019s where Mary was staying. And I was like, \u201cI\u2019m good.\u201d Church and state. But I would usually text Mary at some point later, going, \u201cI think I screwed this up. Did you get enough of this? I\u2019m sorry if I didn\u2019t get that.\u201d I\u2019d go through a series of thoughts in my head of what I could have done better, what we missed, how we\u2019ll fix it\u2014just neurotic actress things.<\/p>\n Mary mentioned to me that she wouldn\u2019t run a lot of takes.<\/strong><\/p>\n She didn\u2019t. It\u2019s a tiny movie\u2014it\u2019s not like a Kubrick film where you can do a hundred takes. Or allegedly, those sorts of things you hear about. [Laughs<\/em>] This was four weeks. It was like doing a play. I just stepped onto the set, but before I knew it, I was off the set. The adrenaline of it got me through all of that.<\/p>\n Did it take a toll\u2014physically, emotionally, all the above?<\/strong><\/p>\n It\u2019s funny\u2014having small children, they just couldn\u2019t care less if it\u2019s taking a toll on you or not, whether it be work or something else. That\u2019s always very grounding. But I felt sad it was over. It was such a gift to be able to do it.<\/p>\n Because the camera was so close, it was a very technical exercise as well a lot of the time. And my scene partner, you never see. There\u2019s twists in the filmmaking that people will hopefully recognize, but that was wild, going, \u201cHow\u2019s that going to work? How\u2019s this story going to be told?\u201d It\u2019s just all from the perspective of Linda, in a way that I\u2019ve not experienced for a while in the cinema\u2014watching it, just like, \u201cOh, you are inside this person\u2019s eyeballs.\u201d<\/p>\n Do you remember what state of mind you were in when you finished filming?<\/strong><\/p>\n Whew. I have an Australian kind of relaxed, laid-back quality that I know is culturally similar, but I am peddling fast underneath a little bit. I was just like, \u201cIs this okay? Did I fuck it up?\u201d I didn\u2019t want it to be over. When Mary and I talked again later, I was having separation anxiety from the character\u2014and from Mary, and Mary as part of the character, and our friendship. I felt a little of that when I was coming away from it. And I felt pretty wrecked, physically.<\/p>\n There\u2019s the physical toll I was asking about!<\/strong><\/p>\n
