\t\t<\/p>\n Jude Law<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about playing a controversial figure in his new movie.<\/p>\n In The Wizard of the Kremlin<\/em>, the 52-year-old actor plays Vladimir Putin<\/strong><\/a>. The movie is set in Russia in the 1990s as Putin<\/strong> rises to power. <\/p>\n Despite playing the controversial figure on the screen, Jude<\/strong> says he\u2019s not concerned about any trouble coming from the role. At the 2025 Venice Film Festival<\/strong><\/a> premiere of the movie, Jude<\/strong> spoke to Variety<\/em><\/a> about the role.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI hope not naively, but I didn\u2019t fear repercussions. I felt confident, in the hands of Olivier<\/strong><\/a> and the script, that this story was going to be told intelligently and with nuance and consideration,\u201d Jude<\/strong> told the publication on Sunday (August 31) at the premiere. \u201cWe weren\u2019t looking for controversy for controversy\u2019s sake. It\u2019s a character in a broader story. We weren\u2019t trying to define anything about anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n Jude<\/strong> talked about his decision to not speak with a Russian accent in the movie. The actor noted that it was part of the director\u2019s plan to bring the movie to life in a way that fictionalizes the Russian leader. <\/p>\n \u201cOlivier<\/strong> and I discussed this wasn\u2019t to be an interpretation of Putin<\/strong>, and he didn\u2019t want me to hide behind a mask of prosthetics. We worked with an amazing makeup and hair team and had reference of that period in Putin<\/strong>\u2019s life.
