Fans of the Fast and the Furious<\/em><\/a> franchise are in for a big surprise at the end of Fast X<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n Directed by Louis Leterrier<\/strong>, the latest installment \u2014 which hit theaters Friday, May 19 \u2014 brings back returning favorites Vin Diesel<\/strong><\/a>, Michelle Rodriguez<\/strong><\/a>, Jordana Brewster<\/strong><\/a>, John Cena<\/strong><\/a> and more as the crew is confronted with one of their biggest challenges yet. Newcomers Brie Larson<\/strong><\/a>, Rita Moreno<\/strong><\/a> and Jason Momoa<\/strong><\/a> were known to be joining the star-studded cast \u2014 but one post-credit appearance was kept quiet.<\/p>\n Dwayne \u201cThe Rock\u201d Johnson<\/strong><\/a> is back as Agent Luke Hobbs despite publicly declaring he would no longer be part of the racing movies<\/a> amid tension with Diesel, 55. The duo did not appear in any scenes together in 2017\u2019s The Fate of the Furious<\/em> following a public falling out<\/a> \u2014 and the former pro wrestler, 51, wasn\u2019t featured in 2021\u2019s F9<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve wished them well,\u201d he told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> that year, revealing that he wouldn\u2019t be back for another Fast movie. \u201cI wish them well on Fast 9.<\/em> And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10<\/em> and Fast 11<\/em> and the rest of the Fast & Furious<\/em> movies they do that will be without me.\u201d<\/p>\n In November 2021, however, Diesel extended a public invitation for Johnson to return<\/a> despite their ups and downs. \u201cMy little brother Dwayne\u2026 the time has come. The world awaits the finale of \u2018Fast 10.\u2019 As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don\u2019t send well wishes\u2026 but the time has come. Legacy awaits. I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo,\u201d the XXX<\/em> actor wrote via Instagram, referring to late costar Paul Walker<\/a> by using an affectionate nickname.<\/p>\n Diesel continued: \u201cI swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10! I say this out of love\u2026 but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can\u2019t be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny.\u201d<\/p>\n The Moana<\/em> actor turned down the offer, which he claimed was a \u201cmanipulation\u201d tactic<\/a>. \u201cI didn\u2019t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker\u2019s death. Leave them out of it,\u201d he told CNN in December 2021. \u201cWe had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding. My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible Fast & Furious franchise with gratitude and grace.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson added that he felt \u201csurprised\u201d that Diesel would discuss the situation<\/a> so publicly. \u201cThis past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly \u2014 and privately \u2014 that I would not be returning to the franchise,\u201d he explained. \u201cI was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return.\u201d<\/p>\n The drama began in 2016 when Johnson shared a since-deleted Instagram post<\/a> hinting that some \u201ccandy asses\u201d on set don\u2019t \u201cconduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals.\u201d He didn\u2019t name names at the time, but rumors swirled<\/a> that the insults were directed at Diesel.<\/p>\n Five years later, feud conversations were reignited<\/a> when the Pacifier<\/em> star told Men\u2019s Health<\/em> that the character of Hobbs required \u201ctough love\u201d on his part. \u201cI would do anything I\u2019d have to do in order to get performances in anything I\u2019m producing,\u201d he said in June 2021.<\/p>\n Despite seemingly stepping away from the franchise, Johnson confessed in October 2021<\/a> that he had some regrets about the social media upload that fueled the fire.<\/p>\n \u201cI shouldn\u2019t have shared that,\u201d he told Vanity Fair.<\/em> \u201cBecause at the end of the day, that goes against my DNA. I don\u2019t share things like that. And I take care of that kind of bulls\u2014t away from the public. They don\u2019t need to know that. That\u2019s why I say it wasn\u2019t my best day.\u201d<\/p>\n
