The 54-year-old former model \u2013 who married Rod, 80, in 2007 \u2013 has described how the singer still likes to have a say in her wardrobe, decades into their relationship. <\/p>\n
In an interview with the Daily Mail to promote her upcoming memoir Someone Like Me, Penny reflected on moments when Rod encouraged her towards certain styles, even arranging designer outfits in advance of a holiday \u2013\u00a0and admitting Rod hates seeing her in trousers.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cWhen you think about controlling, coercive behaviour and the signs to look for, you could think, hang on \u2013\u00a0telling me how to dress, what to wear. <\/p>\n
\u201cBut (his preferences weren\u2019t) coming from that direction. He knew I was coming into a lifestyle where there were wealthy people, and I was going to require different outfits. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd he thought: \u2018She\u2019s special, I\u2019m going to treat her. I\u2019m going to surprise her.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nPenny explained during an early trip to Barbados, Rod instructed her not to unpack because he had stocked the villa with rails of designer clothes in her size. <\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cHe was clearly a man used to being in command of his world, including what I\u2019d wear on holiday.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nPenny added his preferences remain clear. <\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cHe\u2019ll pick something up in a shop and say, \u2018Darling, look at this.\u2019 And I\u2019ll say: \u2018That\u2019s skintight and not for my tummy.\u2019 <\/p>\n
\n\u201c\u2018OK, what about this?\u2019 And I\u2019ll say, \u2018My boobs are too big for it, darling.\u2019 He doesn\u2019t see me as I see me. I\u2019ve aged, but he doesn\u2019t see it. How lovely is that?\u201d<\/p>\n
\nPenny revealed Rod often voices his dislike of certain clothing. <\/p>\n
\nThe Mail said Rod \u201cfirmly prefers his wife in skirts\u201d, and on occasion reprimands her with the words: \u201cOi. Trousers!\u201d<\/p>\n
\nPenny also reveals in her new book how she suffered a series of sexual assaults from childhood into her teenage years.<\/p>\n
\nThe Mail reports her memoir \u201cstarts with her fearing the sound of footsteps\u201d as when Penny was aged only five a man tried to abduct her in his car as she played in her garden.<\/p>\n
\nHer father later caught him and \u201ctaught that guy a lesson he\u2019d never forget\u201d, Penny\u2019s book adds.<\/p>\n
\nAnd aged 12, she was assaulted in an underpass by a man who grabbed her from behind as she walked alone to school. <\/p>\n
\nIt added she also suffered a \u201cterrifying\u201d sexual assault aged 17, at the start of her modelling career, which she has kept secret until now.<\/p>\n
