Riz Ahmed<\/strong><\/a> is looking back being hospitalized while working on 2016\u2019s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n In a new interview, the 42-year-old Oscar winner detailed his \u201cintense\u201d hospitalization that helped him connect with his character in Sound of Metal<\/em>.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span>\u201cAround the time of taking on Sound of Metal<\/em>, I had a very intense health-related experience myself,\u201d Riz<\/strong> shared on the Podcrushed<\/em> podcast<\/a>, referring to his 2019 movie in which he played a drummer who loses his hearing. \u201cI had to grapple with the grief but also the acceptance around that.\u201d<\/p>\n Riz<\/strong> went on to say he was \u201cin the middle of filming\u201d Rogue One<\/em> when his body felt off.<\/p>\n \u201cMy body just, kind of, gave up on me,\u201d he explained. \u201cI was extremely exhausted, [and] I was hospitalized for a brief period. I just had to really try and retrain my strength. It was, like, building myself up from scratch. It was super scary and intense and quite prolonged, actually.\u201d<\/p>\n Riz<\/strong> continued, \u201cFor a minute, I was, like, \u2018Am I ever going to get my life back?\u2019 It really wasn\u2019t clear. Something very silent and very intense had happened to me, and I wasn\u2019t getting better quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n While in the hospital, Riz<\/strong> said that he felt a \u201cdeep kind of grief and fear and terror.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c[I also felt] a tremendous liberation and gratitude and acceptance,\u201d he noted. \u201cSomeone told me that cancer patients, once they\u2019ve recovered, say, \u2018You know what? I\u2019m so glad I\u2019m better, but I wish I could bottle that slightly zen-like gratitude I had when I lost everything.\u2019 I always think that when you\u2019re brought to your knees, you\u2019re halfway to praying.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cYou\u2019re humbled in that way when something is taken away from you, you become even more acutely aware of everything you have.\u201d<\/p>\n He also said that \u201con a health level,\u201d it was difficult not to have \u201ccontrol\u201d over his body.<\/p>\n \u201cYou realize, like, you don\u2019t control anything, man,\u201d Riz<\/strong> reflected. \u201cYou don\u2019t control a single thing. You don\u2019t even control your body. Then, in moments of trippy clarity in the darkness, I realized [that] everything you have is a gift. .. In a strange way, I never felt more grateful, more at peace, more content than when I felt I was going to lose my whole life.\u201d<\/p>\n After recovering from hospitalization, Riz<\/strong> read the script for Sound of Metal<\/em> and knew immediately that he needed to be involved in the movie.<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018I need to tell this story.
