Bruce Willis<\/a>: The Unexpected Journey with Diane Sawyer aired, saying in a video: “I think that they did a beautiful job with amplifying FTD awareness, as well as shining a spotlight onto caregivers. What I knew is that by sharing some of our intimate information that we would see these two camps. It would be people with an opinion versus people with an actual experience.<\/p>\n\u201c[I anticipated that] people with an opinion [are quick to judge] the caregiver. That is what caregivers are up against. Judgement from others and criticism from others.<\/p>\n
\u201cNothing changes an opinion quite as powerfully as when you have an experience. Even if someone is closely familiar with dementia or the condition you are caring for, they aren’t in your home, so they don’t know how your person is behaving or your family dynamics.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe truth is that the opinions are so loud and they’re so noisy. But if they don’t have the experience of this, they don’t get a say, and they definitely don’t get a vote.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nEmma captioned her post: \u201cToo often, caregivers are judged quickly and unfairly by those who haven\u2019t lived this journey or stood on the front lines of it.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cSharing openly may invite opinions, but more importantly, it creates connection and validation for those actually navigating the realities of caregiving every day.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThat\u2019s who I share for and so I can build a deeper connection with a community that understands this journey.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWhen doctors confirmed Bruce\u2019s diagnosis in 2023 through a brain scan, Emma recalled: \u201cI was so panicked. I remember hearing it and just not hearing anything else. It was like I was freefalling.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cI don\u2019t think Bruce connected the dots.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nOf his condition, Emma said: \u201cBruce is still very mobile. Bruce is in really great health overall, you know. It\u2019s just his brain that is failing him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAlong with his kids with Emma, Bruce also shares three adult daughters with his former wife, Demi Moore, 62 \u2013 Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31.<\/p>\n
