They\u2019ve been together forever. They often <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2025\/04\/catelynn-lowell-tyler-baltierra-farrah-abraham-apology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admit when they\u2019re wrong<\/a>. And they clearly love each other.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to sharing their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2024\/03\/tyler-baltierra-threatens-divorce-curses-out-catelynn-lowell-in-shocking-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">messier moments<\/a>, they are also very open about mental health topics.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler is opening up about how an eye-opening new diagnosis is making so much sense for him. It\u2019s a familiar expression of concern that he wears here.<span class=\"image-caption-credit\"> (Image Credit: MTV)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tyler-baltierra-is-on-the-autistic-spectrum\">Tyler Baltierra is on the autistic spectrum<\/h2>\n<p>On this week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/in-retrospect-our-first-decade-an-autism-diagnosis\/id1791855880?i=1000723690207\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">episode<\/a> of the <em>Cate &amp; Ty Break It Down<\/em> podcast, hosts Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra revealed that Tyler has received an autism diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>Like many who only learn that they are on the autistic spectrum as adults, Tyler is proficient at masking \u2014 that is, behaving in a neurotypical manner. <\/p>\n<p>One might compare this to a left-handed person who makes a habit out of using their right hand, even though it is less comfortable and coordinated.<\/p>\n<p>Also like many adults first receiving an autism diagnosis, Tyler found out because of one of his kids. <\/p>\n<p>(Anecdotally, this seems to be an extremely common phenomenon, with parents asking \u201c<em>wait, don\u2019t all kids do this<\/em>?\u201d)<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"In Retrospect.. Oh my God, when I was a kid, I remember doing that,\u2019\u201d Tyler explained. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst thing I noticed is that small things [that] should not be a big deal are a huge deal to her,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>As many may recall, Tyler received a diagnosis of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2018\/07\/tyler-baltierra-opens-up-about-bipolar-disorder-sticks-it-to-hat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bipolar disorder<\/a> several years ago. <\/p>\n<p>But he did not experience the extreme highs and lows. Now, he says, his more accurate diagnosis may explain his mood swings.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DN5QDgdgMpF\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>\u201c \u2026 She was like, \u2018Your mood swings are based [on] things not going right in your weird little routine that I won\u2019t be able to understand, your wife will never be able to understand fully,\u201d Tyler detailed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can explain it as much as you can about how these things operate in your head,\u201d he continued. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd how when one thing is off \u2026 so these mood swings will come across [like] something really frustrated you real quick.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tyler also shared that he \u201cranked super-high in masking.\u201d Many people hide aspects of themselves to make their lives easier, even though masking requires effort and can often be uncomfortable. <\/p>\n<p>This is a learned and often unconscious behavior. Their hope is that if they know early with her, she won\u2019t have to grow up wondering why she thinks differently than many of her peers.<\/p>\n<p>As for Tyler, however, he\u2019s not planning a \u201ctreatment\u201d for his diagnosis because it\u2019s just who he is. <\/p>\n<p>He now has more information about himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just the way my brain works,\u201d he affirmed. \u201cInstead of trying to fix it, let\u2019s just try to live with this thing and I think knowing this information makes me better aware.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Congratulations, Tyler!
