Subscribe By signing up, I agree to the Terms and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Casey Affleck Gives a Fully Committed Performance<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Slingshot | Official Trailer | Bleecker Street\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tibvd41bhCg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Slingshot<\/em> follows a trio of astronauts played by Fishburne, <strong>Tomer Capone<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/casey-affleck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Casey Affleck<\/strong><\/a> on a very lonely mission to Titan. All three of the men are psychologically taxed by their years-long journey, but it\u2019s Affleck\u2019s John who stands out the most. Do you know the secret to successfully portraying someone losing their mind? It\u2019s making the audience believe that the character wasn\u2019t always unraveling.<\/p>\n<p>John\u2019s not the only one who\u2019s losing his grip, but the symptoms of space travel and the drugs used to put the crew in stasis have a profoundly disturbing effect on him. Throughout the film, John is subjected to hallucinations that may or may not exist outside of his mind. One of the few memories that John holds on to is his connection to a woman named Zoe (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/cruella-trailer-emma-stone-transforms-in-101-dalmatians-prequel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Cruella<\/em><\/a>\u2018s <strong>Emily Beecham<\/strong>), and even that\u2019s not necessarily what he thinks it is. Affleck perfectly conveys John\u2019s ongoing confusion and agitation, and he really seems like a man who has lost himself in space.<\/p>\n<h3>The Cast Adds Ambiguity to the Story<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Slingshot Exclusive Movie Clip - Are We Friends (2024)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a9ruxqPCsOo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Because so much of this story unfolds from John\u2019s perspective, we don\u2019t get as much time with Captain Franks (Fishburne) or Nash (Capone). Both men are clearly having mental health problems of their own. As for Capone, Nash\u2019s ongoing paranoia is easier to understand when it appears that the mission really is heading for failure. We\u2019re not going to spoil the ending or the final surprises of <em>Slingshot<\/em> here, but it falls short of <em>Event Horizon<\/em>\u2018s B-movie thrills. At its best, <em>Slingshot<\/em> is a C+ movie with a B+ list cast.<\/p>\n<p>Having said that, the conclusion of the film really goes out of its way to keep the audience guessing. There\u2019s one twist after another until the movie ends on one last surprise.
