Dr. Terry Dubrow<\/strong> and Heather Dubrow<\/strong><\/a> have thoughts about Fit for TV <\/i>exploring the dark side of The Biggest Loser<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cWe, like the nation, are obsessed with Fit for TV,\u201d<\/i> Heather, 56, said on the Wednesday, August 20, episode<\/a> of their \u201cBetween Us\u201d podcast. \u201cIt\u2019s the No. 1 show on Netflix right now. So, interestingly, we are not only friends with Dr. Robert Huizenga<\/strong>, [but] he is our personal physician.\u201d<\/p>\n

Huizenga served as a doctor and medical consultant on 17 seasons of The Biggest Loser, <\/i>a show that helped individuals with obesity lose weight by switching up their diet and workout routines. The contestant with the biggest weight loss difference<\/a> ended up winning a cash prize.<\/p>\n

Heather and Terry, 66, also claimed on their Wednesday podcast episode that Huizenga personally told them that he \u201cturned down\u201d a cut of Biggest Loser <\/i>merchandise over ethics.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Huizenga is a Harvard-trained [physician],\u201d Heather said. \u201cHe\u2019s a brilliant, brilliant doctor, who is such a safety guy. I know this because he\u2019s my doctor. Trust me, I have to talk him into things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Terry, meanwhile, asserted that Huizenga was never \u201csome TV doctor they hired who\u2019s going to follow exactly what they say, no matter how crazy\u201d the production request.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a guy who\u2019s extraordinarily gifted, went to Harvard Medical School, [has] a high moral compass, has an enormous practice of fundamentally basically celebrities and is one of the most principled physicians I\u2019ve ever known,\u201d Terry said. \u201cIf not the most principled.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dubrows, especially Terry as a doctor himself, had been familiar with The Biggest Loser <\/i>when it initially aired on television.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember in 2003 and 2004, I did the show The Swan<\/i>,\u201d Terry recalled. \u201c[It was] sending the worst message about \u2018you\u2019re not good enough.\u2019 I remember \u2026 when they canceled The Swan, <\/i>this new show was about to come out, called The Biggest Loser.<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Biggest Loser became a cultural phenomenon when it premiered in 2004 \u2014 but the show has been plagued with scandals and controversy as well. When NBC introduced the show, it followed a group of people deemed overweight who would compete in a 30-week competition. The goal was to lose as many pounds as possible [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Terry recalled that The Biggest Loser <\/i>tried to differentiate itself<\/a> from The Swan<\/i>, which documented plastic surgery journeys, by stressing it was about the \u201chealthy\u201d way to lose weight.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018We\u2019re going to send the right message, and they\u2019re going to lose weight through diet and exercise,\u2019\u201d Terry recalled of the show\u2019s marketing plan. \u201cIt turns out to be the worst reality show of all time. It sends the wrong message with a whole bunch of characters on the show, who did it the absolute wrong way. The Biggest Loser <\/i>was the biggest loser of reality shows.\u201d<\/p>\n
