Tom Sandoval<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s quarterfinals performance failed to impress America\u2019s Got Talent<\/em><\/a> judge Simon Cowell<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

After Sandoval, 43, and his band The Most Extras delivered an energetic rendition<\/a> of \u201cBlinding Lights\u201d by The Weeknd<\/strong> on the reality show\u2019s Tuesday, August 19, episode, Cowell, 65, offered his honest verdict.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t sound great. It didn\u2019t,\u201d the longtime judge told the Vanderpump Rules<\/em><\/a> alum. \u201cIt might just be me, from where I sat, but that did not sound good, I\u2019m afraid. It didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sandoval stepped on stage in an all-black ensemble complete with dark sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat and gloves, before shifting into slippery Moonwalk-esque dance moves as he belted out the cover song.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTom Sandoval will welcome any and all constructive criticism from Simon Cowell. \u201cHe said the vocals could use a little work, or something along those lines,\u201d Sandoval, 42, exclusively shared with Us Weekly after his America\u2019s Got Talent audition aired. \u201cBut, you know, that\u2019s great. I mean, Simon hears people that are comparable to, like, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Before the performance ended, Cowell had already made his mind up, pressing the button in front of him to give Sandoval a disapproving red X. As fellow judges Sofia Vergara<\/strong>, Mel B<\/strong> and Howie Mandel<\/strong> were visibly amused by the button being pressed, Cowell calmly sipped through on a drink.<\/p>\n

Despite the brutal verdict, Cowell said that he \u201cliked Tom\u201d and \u201cliked the band\u201d but had to judge the performance as it stood alone.<\/p>\n

Sandoval impressed all four judges during the audition round of AGT<\/em>, telling Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> on August 12 that he and his bandmates were working hard ahead of their live performance. \u201cI think that it\u2019s just gonna take a lot of hard work and passion,\u201d Sandoval exclusively told Us<\/em>. \u201cWhen I watch people perform and I see them put their whole selves into a performance, it really moves me.\u201d (Sandoval and the Most Extras performed a cover of A-Ha\u2019s \u201cTake On Me\u201d during the audition round on June 24.)<\/p>\n

Cowell wasn\u2019t the only judge who wasn\u2019t blown away by Sandoval\u2019s performance. Vergara, 53, said that while she \u201cloved the dancing, loved the band [and] loved the song,\u201d she agreed that \u201cthe sound was not amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mel B, 50, chose to reflect on Sandoval\u2019s stage presence rather than the band\u2019s sound. \u201cYou made me smile,\u201d she told the reality star. \u201cYou just do, and you know what, yeah, you\u2019re a cover band but, you know what, you just bring a little bit of happiness and the way that you commit is flawless. Those moves, brother, they\u2019re lit.\u201d<\/p>\n
