Aubrey Plaza<\/strong><\/a> is getting candid about her grief following husband Jeff Baena<\/strong>\u2019s death earlier this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Plaza, 41, joined good friend and former Parks and Recreation<\/em><\/a> costar Amy Poehler<\/strong><\/a> on the Tuesday, August 19, episode of Poehler\u2019s \u201cGood Hang\u201d podcast. Early on in the episode, Poehler noted that Plaza brought her dog, Frankie, with her to the podcast recording, describing her as a \u201ctherapy dog\u201d for Plaza, especially given the events of the last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo get it out of the way, people wanna see you and see how you are,\u201d Poehler, 53, said<\/a>, referring to Baena\u2019s death by suicide on January 3. \u201cThey love you, and they wanna see you. You had this terrible, terrible, tragic year. You lost your husband. You\u2019ve been dealing with that, and you\u2019ve been looking for all different ways in which to feel and find support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Poheler asked Plaza, \u201cOn behalf of all of the people who feel like they know you, and the people who do know you, how are you feeling today?\u201d<\/p>\n

The Agatha All Along<\/em> actress said that, \u201cin this very, very moment,\u201d she was \u201chappy\u201d to be with her longtime pal, but described the waves of grief she has experienced since January.<\/p>\n

\u201cOverall, I\u2019m here, and I\u2019m functioning, and I feel grateful to be moving through the world. I think, like, I\u2019m OK, but it\u2019s a daily struggle, obviously,\u201d Plaza said.<\/p>\n

Plaza went on to liken her grief to the recent action-horror film The Gorge,<\/em>\u00a0starring Miles Teller<\/strong> and Anya Taylor-Joy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is kind of a dumb analogy, and it was kind of a joke at a certain point, but, like, I actually mean it,\u201d she explained. \u201cDid you see that movie The Gorge<\/em>? It\u2019s like an alien movie or something with Miles Teller. In the movie, there\u2019s a cliff on one side and a cliff on the other side, and there\u2019s a gorge in between and it\u2019s filled with all these monster people that are trying to get them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dawson\u2019s Creek alum met Heath Ledger after they played husband and wife in Brokeback Mountain in 2004. The couple welcomed daughter Matilda the following year. Plaza continued, \u201cI swear, when I watched it, I was like, that feels like what my grief is like. \u2026 Where it\u2019s like, at all times, there\u2019s like a giant ocean of awfulness that\u2019s, like, right there, and I can see it, and sometimes I just wanna dive into it and be in it. And then, sometimes, I just look at it, and sometimes I just try to get away from it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s always there and the monster people are trying to get me like Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Baena died by suicide at his residence in Los Angeles in early January, per medical examiner records viewed by Us Weekly<\/em>. He was 47.<\/p>\n
