But neither Ye nor [his company] Yeezy has seen, authorized or approved the final product.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response, a rep for director <strong>Nico Ballesteros<\/strong> tells\u00a0<em>Us<\/em>, \u201cNico Ballesteros had access to Ye during the making of <em>In Whose Name?<\/em>, allowing him to document moments that became integral to the film\u2019s narrative. While Ye is a central figure in the story, he did not have approval rights over any of the film\u2019s content or editorial decisions, ensuring it remains an independent creative work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Starting at the age of 18, Ballesteros was given unprecedented access to West \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/kanye-west-files-to-legally-change-name-to-ye\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legally changed his name to Ye<\/a> in 2021 \u2014 at a critical time in the Grammy winner\u2019s life. Over the course of six years, the amateur documentarian shot thousands of hours of behind-the-scenes footage chronicling West\u2019s divorce from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/kim-kardashian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Kim Kardashian<\/strong><\/a>, mental health struggles and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/what-kanye-west-lost-after-series-of-antisemitic-social-media-posts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">antisemitic rants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ballesteros <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/kim-kardashian-breaks-down-over-kanye-west-in-documentary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released the first trailer<\/a> on Wednesday, August 13, which begins with West, 48, declaring in a voice-over, \u201cI\u2019m off my meds for five months now.\u201d Kardashian, 44, then cries out, \u201cYour personality was not like this a few years ago!\u201d (The former couple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/pictures\/kim-kardashian-kanye-wests-relationship-timeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">were married<\/a> from 2014 to 2022 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-moms\/pictures\/kim-kardashian-kanye-wests-sweetest-moments-with-their-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">share four children<\/a>: North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6.)<\/p>\n<p>The minute-long trailer also features clips of West\u2019s Sunday Service choir, his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/inside-kanye-wests-plan-for-presidency-education-reform-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unsuccessful presidential campaigns<\/a> and his bombshell 2020 claim that he and Kardashian had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/kanye-west-cries-talks-abortion-at-first-presidential-campaign-rally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">considered an abortion<\/a> during her pregnancy with North.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"In Whose Name? | Teaser Trailer | Only In Theaters September 19\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OpKEUIAkO_Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat began as silent observation evolved into a profound journey of artistic and personal growth,\u201d the film\u2019s synopsis reads. \u201cImmersed in Ye\u2019s world of extremes, [Ballesteros] bore witness to brilliance and breakdowns, triumphs and turmoil but also observed the paranoia and intensity that increasingly shaped Ye\u2019s world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The description continues, \u201cIn the end, Ballesteros captured not just a portrait of Ye, but a reflection of the human condition in all its contradictions. The camera never blinks as Ye speaks candidly about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/kim-kardashian-addresses-kanye-wests-bipolar-disorder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">living with bipolar disorder<\/a>, offering rare insight into the realities of mental illness and its impact on identity, perception and power. Because of that, there\u2019s a level of honesty you don\u2019t usually get in documentaries. As things started to take shape, it became clear that Nico was the only one who could truly tell this story. He had the access, but more importantly, he had the perspective.
