The 56-year-old singer reflected on filming the promo for her 1994 festive hit in a new video for Allure, revealing that behind the festive glamour, the shoot was far from effortless.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cI was so freezing (in my Santa suit.)<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was definitely not chic and effortless.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite her discomfort, Mariah revealed she has a fond attachment to the outfit.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cSomeone asked me, \u2018Do you still have that one?\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018yeah, I use the same one every year\u2019.\u201c<\/p>\n
\nMariah’s festive favourite is part of her 1994 Merry Christmas album and has become a global holiday staple, earning three Guinness World Records titles, including the highest-charting holiday (Christmas\/New Year) song on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019 alone. <\/p>\n
\nMariah also recounted how the track originated in a modest setting.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cI started writing that on a little DX7 or Casio keyboard that was in this little room in the house that I lived in at the time in Upstate New York lifetimes ago. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cJust writing down everything that I thought about. All the things that reminded me of Christmas that made me feel festive that I wanted other people to feel.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe singer has returned to her festive persona repeatedly. <\/p>\n
\nFor the 20th anniversary of All I Want for Christmas Is You, she released an updated music video featuring her twins, Moroccan and Monroe, both 15, dressed in holiday outfits.<\/p>\n
\nMariah has also reprised her Santa-inspired ensemble alongside a plunging red gown and a costume influenced by The Nutcracker.<\/p>\n
\nHer Christmas influence extended to Mattel, which in 2023 created a Barbie in her likeness, inspired by her holiday style. <\/p>\n
\nMariah told People about her toy: \u201cWhen I saw my doll, I was like, \u2018Oh my gosh, this is so cute.\u2019 Because it’s based on the Christmas dress that I wear in the second All I Want for Christmas Is You video, which was directed by Joseph Kahn.\u201d<\/p>\n
