So it\u2019s a good thing that the end of the 2025 Emmy season will lead into a raft of intriguing fall premieres. We\u2019ve got stalwart old favorites, like <em>Slow Horses<\/em> and <em>Stranger Things;<\/em> we\u2019ve got shiny new projects, coming from proven talents (hello again, <strong>Ken Burns<\/strong> and <strong>Vince Gilligan<\/strong>!) and zeitgeisty creators on the cusp of the mainstream (welcome, <strong>Rachel Sennott<\/strong> and <strong>Tim Robinson<\/strong>\u2014both, incidentally, premiering new comedies on HBO). Don\u2019t call it a reboot\u2014but rather, a new comedy set in the same workplace universe. \u201cThe documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin\u2019s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject,\u201d says Peacock, \u201cwhen they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.\u201d British Independent Film Award nominee <strong>Domhnall Gleeson<\/strong> and <strong>Sabrina Impacciatore,<\/strong> best known for season two of <em>The White Lotus,<\/em> star in the mockumentary-style project from <strong>Michael Koman<\/strong> (<em>SNL, Late Night With Conan O\u2019Brien<\/em>) and <strong>Greg Daniels,<\/strong> who developed the American version of <em>The Office.<\/em> \u2014<em>S.W.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"paywall\"><em>Task<\/em><\/h2>\n<p class=\"paywall\"><strong>Premiere date:<\/strong> September 7<br \/><strong>Network:<\/strong> HBO<br \/><strong>Noteworthy Cast:<\/strong> Mark Ruffalo, Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Thuso Mbedu<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\"><em>Mare of Easttown<\/em> creator <strong>Brad Ingelsby<\/strong> returns to Delco for another gritty drama shot through with dark humor. This one is about <strong>Mark Ruffalo<\/strong>\u2019s Tom, an FBI agent tasked with unmasking a team that\u2019s been robbing drug houses\u2014an operation that, unbeknownst to him, is headed by <strong>Tom Pelphrey<\/strong>\u2019s seemingly mild-mannered Robbie. The cat-and-mouse element adds some tension, moving <em>Task<\/em> away from well-trod whodunit territory. And after Ruffalo\u2019s years in Marvel movies, it\u2019s certainly exciting to see him play a real guy again. \u2014<em>Hillary Busis<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"paywall\"><em>Only Murders in the Building,<\/em> season five<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paywall\"><strong>Premiere date:<\/strong> September 9<br \/><strong>Network:<\/strong> Hulu<br \/><strong>Noteworthy cast:<\/strong> Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Ren\u00e9e Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, T\u00e9a Leoni, Keegan-Michael Key<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Once again, Hulu\u2019s cozy murder comedy has drawn an impressive cast of guest stars for its new outing. But after a sojourn in Los Angeles, it\u2019s also getting back to basics. Seems like classic streaming-limited-series material in the post\u2013<em>Big Little Lies<\/em> era, with one fun twist: Wright is executive-producing the series and also directing it, in addition to starring on it. \u2014<em>H.B.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"paywall\"><em>The Morning Show,<\/em> season four<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paywall\"><strong>Premiere date:<\/strong> September 17<br \/><strong>Network:<\/strong> Apple TV+<br \/><strong>Noteworthy cast:<\/strong> Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Marion Cotillard, Billy Crudup, Karen Pittman<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">When last we left embattled TV news anchor Bradley Jackson (<strong>Reese Witherspoon<\/strong>), she was turning herself in to the authorities for her role in covering up her brother\u2019s involvement in the January 6 storming of the Capitol. (Y\u2019know, normal morning-news-personality stuff.) Her coworker and frenemy, Alex Levy (<strong>Jennifer Aniston<\/strong>), was dealing with the fallout from her relationship with a tech zillionaire, played by <strong>Jon Hamm.<\/strong> We\u2019re not really sure where season four of Apple\u2019s loopy but engaging current events melodrama will find Bradley and Alex\u2014or newcomer <strong>Marion Cotillard<\/strong> as a network exec\u2014but we are eager as ever to find out.
