The mystery continues. Knives Out<\/em> quickly became a beloved franchise following its first two films \u2014 and Benoit Blanc\u2019s adventures are just getting started.<\/p>\n The first movie, which was released in 2019, explored the death of renowned writer Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer<\/a>) and how his wealthy, dysfunctional family may have played a role in his demise. Viewers watched as detective Blanc (Daniel Craig<\/strong><\/a>) worked together with Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas<\/strong><\/a>) to solve the murder \u2014 as the nurse secretly tried to cover up her own involvement.<\/p>\n Knives Out<\/em> also starred Chris Evans<\/strong><\/a>, Jamie Lee Curtis<\/strong><\/a>, Don Johnson<\/strong><\/a>, Toni Collette<\/strong><\/a>, LaKeith Stanfield<\/strong>, Katherine Langford<\/strong><\/a> and Jaeden Martell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Rian Johnson<\/strong>, who directed, wrote and produced the film<\/a>, went on to expand the Knives Out<\/em> universe with the first sequel. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery<\/em> served as an anthology with only Craig returning as his character from the first film.<\/a><\/p>\n At the time, Johnson discussed having freedom to explore the stories he was interested in<\/a> telling.<\/p>\n \u201cPart of the fun of these things is the idea that they\u2019re not sequels, they\u2019re completely new books and they\u2019re completely new stories,\u201d Johnson explained to Variety<\/em> in September 2022. \u201cTo me, the idea for the next one \u2014 and I\u2019m going to try to stay in this state of mind as I write it \u2014 it\u2019s not about trying to top the previous one, it\u2019s about just trying to create something that surprises us and thus hopefully will surprise the audience and thus delight the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n Glass Onion<\/em>, which premiered on Netflix in December 2022, introduced a new group of people at the center of a murder investigation<\/a>. After traveling to a remote island in Greece, Benoit tried t<\/a>o figure out who was responsible for two deaths connected<\/a> to fictional tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n Janelle Mon\u00e1e<\/strong><\/a>, Kathryn Hahn<\/strong><\/a>, Leslie Odom Jr.<\/strong><\/a>, Jessica Henwick<\/strong>, Madelyn Cline<\/strong><\/a>, Kate Hudson<\/strong><\/a> and Dave Bautista<\/strong> rounded out the cast of the second installment.<\/a><\/p>\n That same month, Johnson reflected on how Glass Onion<\/em> has inspired the writing process for Knives Out 3<\/em>. \u201cComing out of the experience of making [Glass Onion<\/em>], I\u2019m so creatively jazzed by this form, and I\u2019ve already started to dig in and try and figure out what the next one can be,\u201d he teased to Oscars.org at the time.<\/p>\n
