I was no longer a child; I was a commodity,\u201d Stoner wrote at one part of the book. \u201cI did as adults instructed me to, and Mom eagerly supported whatever helped me shine. They also wrote about their mother being \u201ccompletely dependent\u201d on their stepdad John\u2019s money. Things between Stoner\u2019s mom and John started to unravel around their 12th birthday.<\/p>\n<p>One night, things escalated when John allegedly \u201crolled up the window while my hand was resting over the edge, jamming my wrist at the top.\u201d Back at home, he went for the family\u2019s \u201cimportant documents\u201d and allegedly \u201cpinned\u201d Stoner\u2019s mom against the wall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sprinted to the landline, only to find he\u2019d preemptively ripped it out again,\u201d Stoner claimed in the book. \u201cI can\u2019t hide this anymore. He\u2019s going to kill us. It was time to breach family confidentiality and tell someone. Later on in Stoner\u2019s career, they discovered that there were discrepancies in their finances. Their mother, for one,\u00a0had taken \u201cseveral thousand\u201d dollars from their bank account over the years. At the time, Stoner\u2019s account was at zero dollars, but their sister estimated it should be at \u201cover a million.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stoner discussed this topic in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/10\/style\/alyson-stoner-memoir-disney-nickelodeon.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The New York Times<\/em><\/a>, referring to it as \u201cdeath by a thousand mishaps,\u201d ahead of their memoir\u2019s release. They decided against legal action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still feel very protective,\u201d Stoner said of their mom. \u201cI know what it\u2019s like to have my life exposed to the world. I don\u2019t wish it on anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Eating Disorder Treatment<\/h2>\n<p>Stoner detailed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-body\/pictures\/stars-who-battled-eating-disorders-201128\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">their disordered eating struggles<\/a> throughout the book, which eventually led to them seeking inpatient treatment. (Stoner said that at one point they weighed 102 pounds, writing that pounds and they eventually gained 25 pounds while in treatment.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy chart stated that my eating disorder started out as orthorexia \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-body\/news\/alyson-stoner-details-weight-loss-camp-for-hunger-games-audition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an obsession with healthy<\/a> or proper eating \u2014 in younger years, which evolved into anorexia nervosa and exercise bulimia,\u201d Stoner wrote. \u201cI was also diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) tendencies, alexithymia, and complex PTSD.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Having an Exorcism Amid Sexuality Journey<\/h2>\n<p>The memoir also detailed Stoner\u2019s religious journey, which took a turn when they started exploring and discovering various aspects of their sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChristian peers spread my personal business to recruit people to fight this spiritual battle,\u201d they wrote, recalling one evening when their pastor attempted to \u201c[exorcize] the demon of homosexuality from [their] body, mind and spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stoner was \u201cprepared to convulse or black out,\u201d but mostly felt shame.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSadly, many of my Christian peers stopped talking to me after hearing about my struggle,\u201d they wrote. \u201cAm I contagious?
