Machine Gun Kelly won\u2019t let hate bring him down<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old rapper – whose real name is Colson Baker – has faced criticism for his lyrics and genre-melding music, but MGK has learned to block out the hate.<\/p>\n

Speaking to People magazine, he said: \u201cI became so hated for, what has become apparent to me, no reason \u2026 just because I artistically express myself, through fashion, music, whatever – because I choose not to stay contained in a societal box.\u201d<\/p>\n

MGK has channelled that spirit through his new studio album Lost Americana, in which he moulds pop, punk and hip-hop together while he tries to make sense of his love, loss and fame.<\/p>\n

The rapper – who has four-month-daughter Saga with his ex Megan Fox<\/a> – said of the L.P. and his haters: \u201cMaybe this time, they\u2019ll get to know the man-slash-broken-boy behind the moniker MGK.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nDuring his younger years, MGK was bullied and had a turbulent relationship with his father, who kicked him out of the house after he finished high school.<\/p>\n

\nSo, as a teenager, the At My Best hitmaker used music to cope with his difficult life.<\/p>\n

\nHe shared: \u201cI guess I don\u2019t really know what else to do with all those pieces.\u201d\u2028<\/p>\n

\nMGK – who also has 16-year-old daughter Cassie with his ex Emma Cannon – shared that becoming a father helped to redefine what family meant to him.<\/p>\n

\nHe said: \u201cIt recharges your you-have-a-purpose-here-sticker.\u201d\u2028<\/p>\n

\nThe I Think I\u2019m Ok rapper also discovered new meaning for himself through songwriting.<\/p>\n

\nHe said: \u201cVulnerability is how I was able to hold on to the fan base I\u2019ve had for so many years.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cThe human behind the music has to show the human side.\u201d\u2028<\/p>\n

\nReflecting on living through difficult times, he said: \u201cI\u2019m a rolling stone, man.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cYou\u2019re bound to continue hitting rocks and obstacles. It\u2019s just the path I chose, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nHaving been open about his struggles with anxiety and depression, the rapper shared he has to \u201clive in a place of positive affirmations\u201d to manage his mental health.<\/p>\n

\nHe added: \u201cSo, speaking into existence what I would like: I\u2019m so f****** happy. Tattoo it on my tongue.\u201d<\/p>\n
