Fans must wait until 2026 for an all-new season of The Rookie<\/em><\/a> \u2014 but Us Weekly<\/em> already knows which cast members are, and aren\u2019t, returning.<\/p>\n

Showrunner Alexi Hawley<\/strong> exclusively confirmed to Us<\/em> in May<\/a> that season 8 of the ABC series will feature both Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave<\/strong>) and Monica Stevens (Bridget Regan<\/strong>) as villains.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not the last we\u2019re gonna see [of] him,\u201d Hawley said of Oscar, who was able to escape police capture during the season 7 finale, but not with the stolen diamonds he acquired. \u201cI think we\u2019re heading for \u2026 a bit of an end game there, or at least the end of a chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to Monica, Hawley told fans at San Diego Comic-Con<\/a> in July that season 8 will begin overseas in Prague with the corrupt attorney \u2014 who made a deal with the FBI to close season 7 \u2014 front and center.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Rookie is going international \u2014 at least to kick off season 8 \u2014 with the upcoming premiere taking place in Prague. Showrunner Alexi Hawley and star Nathan Fillion, who plays LAPD officer John Nolan, confirmed the overseas adventure during San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025, revealing the season premiere was already filmed. Both Nolan [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Officer John Nolan (Nathan Fillion<\/strong><\/a>) is confirmed to be making the trip alongside Detective Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox<\/strong><\/a>) and The Rookie: Feds<\/em>\u2019 FBI Supervisory Special Agent Matt Garza (Felix Solis<\/strong>), according to TVLine<\/em><\/a>. But who else from the police force \u2014 and their inner circle \u2014 can fans expect to see next season?<\/p>\n

Winter will be back as Tim Bradford, who fans last saw asked Lucy Chen (Melissa O\u2019Neil<\/strong><\/a>) to move in with him, but she dozed off and didn\u2019t hear him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do think that cementing that conversation [between them] at the top of the next season and figuring out what the next [or] the right next step is, that\u2019s gotta be our premiere, right?\u201d Hawley told Us<\/em> in May, noting that the writers will \u201cfigure it out from there\u201d how Tim and Lucy proceed as a couple<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Winter, meanwhile, confessed to TVLine<\/em><\/a> in May that he\u2019s unsure how Tim will proceed after putting his heart on the line. \u201cI\u2019m actually very curious about that,\u201d he said. \u201cHe has to do a lot of damage control.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Rookie finale brought back two villains, and Tim Bradford finally made his intentions with Lucy Chen known \u2014 but the episode left Us with more questions than answers. During the season 7 finale on Tuesday, May 13, Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave) reemerged after escaping prison during the season 6 finale with help from corrupt [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

O\u2019Neil will reprise her role as Lucy Chen, but the new sergeant won\u2019t be on the night shift much longer. \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s an obstacle,\u201d Hawley teased. \u201cThe challenge of the night shift was fun in the finale but ultimately, I don\u2019t think we\u2019re gonna live in there for too long.\u201d<\/p>\n

The executive producer also told fans at San Diego Comic Con in July that Lucy will dive deeper into police work this season. \u201cWe have an undercover Lucy story that we\u2019re working on in the writers\u2019 room right now,\u201d he said via People<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cox will return as Nolan\u2019s former training officer, detective Nyla Harper this season. While her story line has not been shared, Hawley told Us<\/em> in May that fans will see more of Nyla and her husband, James Murray (Arjay Smith<\/strong>), after their rocky season 7.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve been through the fire a bit for sure,\u201d the showrunner said. \u201cThe inherent contradiction of his job and her job is still there. I do think that they\u2019ve navigated it for now. They\u2019re definitely in a stronger place than they were say early in season 7.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones is returning as Lieutenant Wade Grey and his wife, Luna (Angela Parker<\/strong>), is expected to appear in several episodes as the couple is still going strong.<\/p>\n

When it comes to what Jones wants to see for Grey during season 8, he exclusively told Us<\/em> in March<\/a> that a cookoff between the lieutenant and rookie Miles Penn (Deric Augustine<\/strong>) would be fun. \u201cI think that\u2019d be just a great close out of an episode that, you know, everybody\u2019s at a barbecue. That we\u2019re having a competition. And they\u2019ll be the judges,\u201d he proposed.<\/p>\n

Hawley confirmed during San Diego Comic-Con in July that Nolan\u2019s wife, Bailey Nune, played by Dewan<\/a>, flew to Prague for the season 8 premiere alongside her TV husband. As in seasons\u2019 past, she will continue to be part of the cast and remain Nolan\u2019s No. 1 lady.<\/p>\n

Ashmore will reprise his role as attorney Wesley Evers, but Hawley told Us<\/em> that his and Angela\u2019s marriage won\u2019t be tested amid Monica\u2019s return. (Corrupt attorney Monica dated Wesley prior to his relationship with the detective.)<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point Monica\u2019s got such bad blood with so many of our characters that I don\u2019t know if she\u2019d be shaking stuff up with Wesley and Angela,\u201d Hawley said in the spring.<\/p>\n

The showrunner also told TVLine<\/em><\/a> in April that Wesley\u2019s arc might include running for DA after his boss bowed out of the race. \u201cWe\u2019re sniffing around a bit of where to take that story, and it would certainly make sense for Wesley, who was a defense attorney and believes very strongly in righting the wrongs of an unjust justice system,\u201d Hawley mused. \u201cHe\u2019s an assistant DA, they have not a ton of power, so becoming the DA would give him an ability to shake things up. So, we\u2019re definitely kicking the tires on that idea.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chavez has been playing Celina Juarez since season 5, completing her rookie training during season 7. She is set to return for season 8 \u2014 and her romance with Rodge Bronson (Zander Hawley<\/strong>) could continue, according to Hawley.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they\u2019re both young, and so I don\u2019t know that we need to define everything [and it] doesn\u2019t have to turn into a relationship,\u201d Hawley explained to Us<\/em> in May of Celina and Rodge\u2019s story line. \u201cI\u2019m not 100 percent sure where it goes, but I do think that ultimately we are very aware that we have some very strong relationships on the show.\u201d<\/p>\n
