Donnie Wahlberg<\/strong><\/a> is gearing up for the premiere of his Blue Bloods<\/em><\/a> spinoff, Boston Blue<\/em><\/a>, teasing that fans won\u2019t be disappointed in how it starts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first episode is going to blow people\u2019s minds,\u201d Wahlberg, 55, said on the Thursday, August 7, episode of Boston\u2019s Billy & Lisa in the Morning<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI think people are going to be like, \u2018Oh, my God,\u2019 like, there\u2019s some twists and turns in the first episode, and then we\u2019re going to continue that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor, who will reprise his role as Detective Danny Reagan on the upcoming CBS show, confirmed that Boston Blue<\/em> will \u201cpay respect and honor\u201d Blue Bloods<\/em> as well.<\/p>\n

He noted that during Blue Bloods<\/em>\u2019 14-season run, the Reagan family, including Tom Selleck<\/strong><\/a>, who played his father, NYPD Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, were \u201cmy family and we\u2019re very close<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without that familiar connection on Boston Blue<\/em>, Wahlberg confessed it\u2019s \u201ca new world\u201d for him, but promised, the new show will \u201cstay connected with the old characters<\/a> and they\u2019ll be popping up from time to time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wahlberg revealed that the upcoming procedural will also be working to tell stories of the \u201cthousands and thousands of police families in America.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cAnd we want to let Danny explore, you know, be a fish out of water,\u201d referring to the change of scenery from New York City to Boston.<\/p>\n

Wahlberg played Danny on Blue Bloods<\/em> from 2010 to 2024<\/a>. The series focused on a New York family of public servants helmed by Frank (Selleck) and his father, former NYPD Police Commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tDonnie Wahlberg hinted that the Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, is all about starting fresh. Wahlberg, 55, took to Instagram on Tuesday, July 8, to share a photo from the spinoff\u2019s first table read, which he captioned, \u201cA new chapter \ud83d\udc99.\u201d The actor, who plays Danny, tagged his costar Sonequa Martin-Green as the cast prepares [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The family also consisted of Danny\u2019s sister, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan<\/strong><\/a>), an ADA with the Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s office, and their younger brother, Jamie Reagan (Will Estes<\/strong><\/a>), who became a police officer after initially planning to become a lawyer. Their eldest brother, Joe Reagan, died on the job before the series began.<\/p>\n

The series ended in December 2024<\/a>, with Danny leaving the door open to a possible romance with his partner, Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez<\/strong>), after losing his wife seasons prior.<\/p>\n

Wahlberg hinted at a possible spinoff while speaking with Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> that same month, saying, \u201cI love the character, and I certainly thought there were more stories that we could tell with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor didn\u2019t confirm anything for certain, adding, \u201cI\u2019m not saying there will be a spinoff, I\u2019m just saying I haven\u2019t closed the door on the character.\u201d<\/p>\n

In February, CBS announced that a Danny-led spinoff<\/a> was ordered straight to series for the 2025-2026 broadcast season. The network confirmed that Danny would take a position in Boston<\/a> and once there he would be \u201cpaired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sonequa Martin-Green<\/strong> was later announced as Danny\u2019s Boston partner<\/a>, Lena, and Ernie Hudson <\/strong>will play her grandfather, Reverend Peters. Maggie Lawson<\/strong> has been cast as Boston Police Department superintendent Sarah Silver. The rest of the cast includes Gloria Reuben<\/strong>, who will serve as Boston\u2019s District Attorney Mae Silver, and Marcus Scribner<\/strong>, who will play rookie cop Jonah Silver.<\/p>\n

Last month, Wahlberg confirmed that Moynahan, 54, will have a \u201cspecial guest appearance\u201d as Danny\u2019s sister, Erin, during the season premiere.<\/p>\n
