The Stranger Things actor, 22, has been a familiar face on screen since his early teens and while navigating international fame continued to attend a local Catholic school during the show’s early seasons rather than opting for homeschooling like many of his young co-stars. <\/p>\n
Now, with over a decade in the public eye, Finn said in a chat with Variety in which he reflectied on the intersection of faith, politics, anxiety and growing up in front of the world: \u201cPope Leo XIV looks like a cool liberal guy who actually cares about people. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pretty agnostic now, but religion was a big part of my childhood.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite describing himself as politically active, Finn added he prefers to stay largely private when it comes to public discourse. <\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI am active in my personal life and try not to be in public. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut I also know how that sounds in the sense of \u2018Everyone has a platform\u2019 and \u2018I should be more\u2026 \u2019.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nIn particular, Finn identified two causes he is deeply committed to \u2013 Ukraine and Indigenous land rights. His father, an attorney, advocates for the latter. <\/p>\n
\nFinn added: \u201cI think the amount that the government gets away with, by just f****** over so many Indigenous groups.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThey have to fight the government to try to get money from them for stolen land \u2013 it’s just insane.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nFinn also supports Ukraine through monthly donations to United24, a fundraising platform launched by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.<\/p>\n
\nFinn also opened up about how the challenges of fame were compounded by early-onset anxiety, which he says was formally diagnosed. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cDiagnosed, yeah,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\nFinn added: \u201cThen I started seeing a therapist. It\u2019s something that\u2019s worked for me. I can either try to bury that stuff and just do project after project, not think about it, or be able to ask myself these questions.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nFinn is currently single and describes his current focus as being firmly on his work. <\/p>\n
\nBut when asked about his relationship status, he struggled to form a complete thought. <\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI\u2019m single and like\u2026 I feel like that\u2019s something that I\u2019m also kind of thinking about right now is just like\u2026 this is the time kind of where I have been doing the most work kind of in my life. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cSo I feel like it\u2019s been kind of\u2026 maybe it\u2019s been subconsciously \u2013 what\u2019s the word? \u2013 deliberate?, to not have a committed partner. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cJust because I\u2019m 22, I don\u2019t really want to put my\u2026 also considering how\u2026 at the rate that I\u2019m traveling all the time and working and stuff, I just feel like it\u2019s not the time to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n
