If you\u2019re in a cooler climate, you may have a harder time accessing okra. Your best bet will be to check a farmers market during the warmest and sunniest month of the year.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-is-okra-slimy\">Why is okra slimy?<\/h4>\n<p>Okra contains mucilage, which is the same slimy substance you see when making <a href=\"https:\/\/minimalistbaker.com\/how-to-make-a-flax-egg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flax eggs<\/a> or using <a href=\"https:\/\/minimalistbaker.com\/crusty-gluten-free-artisan-bread\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">psyllium<\/a> in gluten-free baking. trim and discard the stems. Once trimmed, slice all the okra lengthwise into very thin slices, ~1\/8 inch thick and no thicker than 1\/4 inch. Each okra pod should make 3-5 slices. Cutting them this way requires a little more care, but the crispy result is worth it!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-132450-step-0-2\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<p>Add the sliced okra to a mixing bowl and add the avocado (or olive) oil and salt. Toss until well coated. Transfer the okra to the baking sheet and spread it out so each piece is laying on a flat side and no pieces are overlapping.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-132450-step-0-3\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<p><span style=\"display: block;\">Roast for 10 minutes, then remove, flip the pieces, and roast for 5-10 more minutes until all the okra is golden\/caramelized and some of the thinner pieces are beginning to char.
