In a story shared with Men\u2019s Health<\/a>, actor Freddie Prinze Jr.<\/strong> talked about some of his most iconic roles, including the manny named Sandy on the hit sitcom Friends<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a fun story,\u201d Prinze Jr. said of his time on Friends.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cThe sitcom Friends<\/i> from the 90s that a lot of people remember, if you\u2019re super young, then you don\u2019t, but it was a cool show. And I got to play a character called \u2018the manny,\u2019 but it almost wasn\u2019t me,\u201d the 49-year-old explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was supposed to be Tom Hanks<\/strong>,\u201d Prinze Jr. continued, revealing that Hanks \u201cgot stuck in Europe. His flight got canceled. He wasn\u2019t able to make it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a scramble to fill the position, Prinze Jr. got the call. \u201cThey called me and said, \u2018Hey, would you want to be on Friends<\/i>? I said, \u2018Yeah, that would be great.\u2019 And they said, \u2018Cool. It starts tomorrow.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

With little to no time to prepare, Prinze Jr. told Men\u2019s Health that he had just gotten the script when he went in for his first day where he was asked if he knew how to play the recorder.<\/p>\n

\u201cI laughed. I was like, \u2018No, who knows how to play the recorder outside of the third grade?\u2019 And they\u2019re like, \u2018Well, you need to learn,\u2019\u201d Prinze Jr. revealed. And so he did.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually learned how to play that song, and it\u2019s really me playing,\u201d he said of the scene were he plays \u201cGreensleeves\u201d on the recorder for baby Emma, Ross (played by David Schwimmer<\/strong> and Rachel\u2019s (played by Jennifer Aniston<\/strong>) daughter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey didn\u2019t use a soundtrack,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo the stress was not screwing up the song. But I remember David Schwimmer came in and he was like, \u2018You\u2019re gonna love this. It\u2019s like doing a two act play. The crowd gives you so much energy. Use it, let them be a part of the show.\u2019 And it really helped relax me and make the whole experience just awesome and great. So so big thank you to Mr. Schwimmer.\u201d<\/p>\n
