But as the biographical drama <em>Everest<\/em> illustrates, summiting the world\u2019s highest peak is not always a glorious adventure.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 movie is based on a 1996 disaster in which eight climbers died, and it\u2019s a terrifying depiction of what can go wrong when man is left alone in nature.<\/p>\n<p>This adventure thriller\u2019s talented ensemble cast includes <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/jake-gyllenhaal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jake Gyllenhaal<\/a>, Josh Brolin <\/strong>and <strong>Keira Knightley<\/strong>. Everest Base Camp, <em>Everest<\/em> captures the dangerous beauty of the Himalayas. The snowy and icy peaks scrape the clouds, and you can practically feel the blistering winds. The danger feels real \u2014 and in fact, there was an avalanche on Everest during the filming of the movie that killed multiple people, though none of the <em>Everest<\/em> movie crew or cast members were harmed, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2014\/04\/everest-movie-crew-okay-after-tragic-avalanche-716875\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Deadline<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite the danger, there\u2019s no arguing that the Himalayas are stunning. They\u2019re captured beautifully in this film by cinematographer <strong>Salvatore Totino<\/strong> and director <strong>Baltasar Korm\u00e1kur<\/strong>. While the terrors experienced by this movie\u2019s characters may dissuade you from ever going to Mt. Brolin delivers a raw, intense performance as <strong>Beck Weathers<\/strong>, a climber whose survival is nothing short of miraculous. Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal brings infectious energy to the role of <strong>Scott Fischer<\/strong>, another team leader.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keira Knightley<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/robin-wright\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Robin Wright<\/strong><\/a> also shine in supporting roles, portraying the wives of climbers with moving restraint and emotional depth.
