Los Angeles (AFP) \u2013 Rapper Tory Lanez<\/strong><\/a> was found guilty Friday of shooting Megan Thee Stallion<\/strong><\/a> in the feet during a drunken argument after a celebrity party near Hollywood in 2020.<\/p>\n A trial in Los Angeles heard how he had ordered her to \u201cDance, bitch\u201d as he shot at her several times while she stood on the road.<\/p>\n Lanez, 30, faces a possible 22 years in jail after being convicted of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, discharging a firearm with gross negligence and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.<\/p>\n Jurors took just a few hours to return their verdict after a trial that had heard how the \u201cWAP\u201d hitmaker had been in a car with Lanez, his bodyguard and her friend Kelsey Harris after a party at Kylie Jenner\u2019s luxury home in July of 2020.<\/p>\n Megan Thee Stallion \u2014 whose real name is Megan Pete \u2014 told the court how she and Lanez had developed an intimate relationship in the months before the incident.<\/p>\n Harris, who only learned of the sexual relationship that night, had a \u201ccrush\u201d on Lanez, she told the court, and an argument then erupted in the car, with Megan Thee Stallion demanding to be let out of the vehicle.<\/p>\n The \u201cSavage\u201d singer said she saw Lanez pointing a gun at her and opening fire \u201cafter he said, \u2018Dance, bitch.’\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m in shock. I\u2019m scared. I hear the gun going off and I can\u2019t believe he\u2019s shooting at me,\u201d she told the court.<\/p>\n \u201cI did not know he had a gun that night.\u201d<\/p>\n In pain and bleeding from both feet, Megan Thee Stallion \u2014 who was wearing only a thong bikini \u2014 eventually agreed to get back into the car.<\/p>\n \u201cHe started apologizing,\u201d she said, and said to her: \u201c\u2018Don\u2019t say anything and I\u2019ll give you a million dollars.’\u201d<\/p>\n Police stopped the car a short time later, and Megan Thee Stallion was taken to a hospital, initially telling police she had cut her feet on broken glass.<\/p>\n She testified that she had been reluctant to tell police what had happened because she feared what they would do.<\/p>\n \u201cAt the time, we are at the height of police brutality\u2026 I felt like if I said this man has just shot me, they might shoot first and ask questions later,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Prosecutor Kathy Ta said the row had come to a head because Lanez felt Megan Thee Stallion had \u201cdisrespected\u201d his musical career.<\/p>\n \u201cThe defendant had a bruised ego because Megan was more successful than him,\u201d Ta told jurors in her closing argument this week.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s just disrespecting his rapping\u2026 He had a massive ego and could not handle being disrespected.\u201d<\/p>\n Lanez\u2019s lawyer, George Mgdesyan contended the investigation had been botched, and that police had jumped to conclusions.<\/p>\n
