The 58-year-old actor and comedian confirmed the long-anticipated sequel during an appearance on Good Morning America on Monday, 21 July, and explained devotees of the golf spoof film had consistently asked about a follow-up to the 1996 comedy.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cWhen I walk(ed) down the street a lotta times people (would) say, \u2018You ever gonna do Happy Gilmore 2?\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd for 28 years, I was like, \u2018What are you talking about? No.\u2019 And then all of a sudden, I was like, \u2018Maybe\u2019… people kept asking. And then it just felt right.\u201d<\/p>\n
In Happy Gilmore 2, Adam reprises his role as the foul-mouthed, hockey-loving golfer. <\/p>\n
\nHe said about how the follow-up film picks up at a more turbulent time in the character\u2019s life: \u201cHis life isn\u2019t perfect right now \u2013 at least at the beginning of the movie. And he\u2019s a family man, and he\u2019s gettin\u2019 back into the golf game.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe new cast includes returning co-stars Ben Stiller, 58, Christopher McDonald, 70, and Julie Bowen, 54, along with newcomers such as NFL star Travis Kelce, 34, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, 30, and several professional golfers.<\/p>\n
\nWhen asked how such a wide-ranging ensemble was assembled, Adam said: \u201cI don\u2019t know how it happened. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe wrote \u2018em stuff and everybody was kind enough to come. And everybody in it did a great job.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cEvery day someone cool would show up and we\u2019d hang out.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nChristopher, who returns as villainous Shooter McGavin, said earlier this year Adam and Netflix had \u201coutdone themselves\u201d with the sequel.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking to People magazine, he said: \u201cWhat I love about Adam Sandler is his heart. He\u2019s got so much love for people… and he\u2019s done some amazing work in the last few years. So I\u2019m very happy for him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nPressed for plot details, Christopher said he had signed a non-disclosure agreement, adding: \u201cThis is kind of a big deal.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAdam previously discussed plans for follow-up film on Travis Kelce\u2019s New Heights podcast in 2023, on which he said: \u201cThe movie itself picks up from an older guy who played golf a long time. Some stuff goes on in his life, and he\u2019s different \u2013 he\u2019s a bit of a mess. And then we try to get his life cooking again.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHappy Gilmore 2 will be released on Netflix on 25 July.<\/p>\n
