For family members and loved ones, The Cosby Show<\/i> alum Malcolm-Jamal Warner<\/strong><\/a> was so much more than Theodore Huxtable.<\/p>\n

While the late actor<\/span><\/a> appeared in the popular sitcom for all eight seasons from 1984 to 1992<\/span><\/a>, Warner tried his best to keep his family and personal life away from the spotlight.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy parents were separated when I was three. They got divorced when I was six,\u201d Warner recalled in a rare interview with the \u201cHot & Bothered\u201d podcast<\/span><\/a> in June 2025. \u201cMy father has been remarried for 47 years, and my mother and father are like brother and sister. My whole life, they\u2019ve had this close relationship and coparented very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warner died after he drowned off the coast of Costa Rica on Sunday, July 20, Costa Rican National Police told ABC News<\/span><\/a>. He was 54. Warner\u2019s official cause of death<\/span><\/a> was asphyxia, police said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tFrom filmmakers to artists, Hollywood lost many stars in 2025. News broke on January 4 that Aubrey Plaza\u2019s estranged husband, Jeff Baena, died one day earlier at the age of 47. Per medical examiner records viewed by Us Weekly, Baena died by suicide. \u201cThis is an unimaginable tragedy,\u201d Plaza\u2019s rep said in a statement to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After Warner\u2019s death was confirmed, fans learned that he left behind a wife and daughter. He chose not to publicly share their names during his life.<\/p>\n

In a rare interview on the \u201cHot & Bothered\u201d podcast, Warner gushed about his wife without revealing her full name.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just really honest and frank and candid about everything,\u201d he said when recalling his first date. \u201cI wasn\u2019t trying to smash.\u201d<\/p>\n

While he initially told his future wife that he didn\u2019t want kids, everything changed five and a half months later.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018What do you think about starting a family?\u2019\u201d he shared. \u201cAt some point during this time, if I\u2019m going to have a kid, this is the person I would like to have it with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warner said he never second-guessed his decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis feels right and this makes sense,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen people say, \u2018When you know you know,\u2019 that\u2019s what that feeling is.\u201d<\/p>\n

In March 2013, Us<\/i> confirmed that Warner and Regina King<\/strong> had split<\/span><\/a> after two years of dating.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe the universe has a plan, and we probably wouldn\u2019t have been ready years ago,\u201d King told Parade<\/i><\/span> in January 2012 about dating her longtime friend. \u201cWe both had to do whatever we had to do to be ready for each other now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warner was also linked to actress Karen Malina White<\/strong> for several years.<\/p>\n

During his appearance on the \u201cHot & Bothered\u201d podcast, Warner discussed being in a long-term relationship that ultimately came to an end. (He did not share White\u2019s name.)<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter being in a relationship for six years, I spent the next two years like a man who had been in a relationship for six years,\u201d he said before making a big change. \u201cI went on this hiatus. I was cold turkey.\u201d<\/p>\n
