The Time Traveller\u2019s Wife star, whose career spans Hollywood blockbusters and independent dramas, opened up about how he would rather die in his films than be a leading man until the finale in a chat with The Independent.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cI\u2019m very happy to die, you know? I\u2019m happy to be killed off in something. I\u2019m happy to support (other actors) \u2013 it\u2019s just more interesting. <\/p>\n
\u2013I don\u2019t want the audience to see me and think he\u2019s going to be the main guy until the end credits roll.\u201d<\/p>\n
Australian Eric, best known for roles in Troy, Munich, and Ang Lee\u2019s Hulk, was born and raised in Melbourne, and made a name for himself as a comedian before transitioning into acting. <\/p>\n
\nHe has cultivated a reputation for playing anti-heroes and supporting roles that bring depth and nuance to his projects. <\/p>\n
\nMarried to his wife Rebecca since 1997 and a father of two, Eric also prefers staying grounded in Melbourne despite his international success, The Independent\u2019s profile on the actor revealed.<\/p>\n
\nHis latest project, the Netflix series Untamed, exemplifies this approach. <\/p>\n
\nSet in Yosemite National Park, Eric plays Kyle Turner, a taciturn park ranger investigating the murder of a young woman. <\/p>\n
\nHe said about the project: \u201cIt\u2019s not often that your lead character is allowed to get away with being so uncharming.<\/p>\n
\n\u201c\u2018And we got to lean into the gruffness, the darkness and the uncomfortable (areas.)\u201d <\/p>\n
\nHis co-star Sam Neill, who plays a senior park ranger and the only person to crack his character Kyle\u2019s tough exterior, was someone Eric had never met before filming. <\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI really felt like I knew Sam, and Sam felt like he knew me. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut we\u2019d not only never met, we\u2019d never even been at the same function together \u2013 just nothing\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n
\nEric attributes his discerning approach to scripts partly to his background in comedy. <\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cWhen you\u2019re writing, if an idea doesn\u2019t fly in the room with other writers and we\u2019re not laughing, you can\u2019t expect the audience to make the joke better. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cSo you have to be forensic about it \u2013 working in comedy always felt like being an X-ray machine, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n
