They also don&#8217;t earn <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/loyalty-programs\/ultimate-guide-delta-skymiles\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Delta SkyMiles<\/a> on their tickets and can&#8217;t enter <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/loyalty-programs\/ultimate-guide-delta-sky-club-access\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Delta Sky Clubs<\/a>, even if they&#8217;re members.<\/p>\n<p>United&#8217;s basic economy passengers don&#8217;t get a full-size carry-on bag, among other restrictions.<\/p>\n<h3>Business class would probably be a little different<\/h3>\n<p>Presumably, long-haul business-class restrictions would look different from the basic coach rules.<\/p>\n<p>I could see airlines excluding practical benefits like checked bags, which are generally included on all premium tickets. DAVID SLOTNICK\/THE POINTS GUY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a id=\"how-travelers-and-industry-experts-are-reacting\" class=\"jsx-2362441780 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-2362441780\">How travelers (and industry experts) are reacting<\/h2>\n<p>Already, though, reactions were strong among frequent travelers in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/1246531838806907\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TPG Lounge<\/a> on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People don&#8217;t fly business to get a &#8216;basic&#8217; experience,&#8221; Elizabeth Lovell wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If someone is paying $5000-$10,000+ for a flight, it&#8217;s ridiculous to charge them for anything on top of that,&#8221; added Nicole LeBlanc, a travel adviser.<\/p>\n<p>Could it also give cover for a stealth fare increase?<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what some critics believe. Don&#8217;t value an advance seat assignment enough to pay for it \u2014 even in business? Fine. But, will your airline really knock down business-class fares by $150? Should airlines offer a basic product on long-haul business-class tickets, I&#8217;d call it a likely bet you&#8217;d see similar options in the premium economy and domestic first-class cabins as well.<\/p>\n<p>Count frequent traveler Emily Brown among those willing to reserve judgment until she sees what restrictions airlines have in mind.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would be totally happy with paying fewer points for no checked bag,&#8221; she said. &#8220;But I want lounge access, a good meal, and no charge for seat selection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Will she get her wish?
