Billy Bush<\/strong><\/a> is recalling \u201cthe most uncomfortable celebrity situation\u201d he ever had, and it involves Ricky Martin<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 53-year-old entertainment host made an appearance on Literally! with Rob Lowe<\/em>, and spoke about an interview with the \u201cLivin\u2019 La Vida Loca\u201d singer around the time of his self-titled debut in 1999.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was young and working out of New York the first couple years on Access Hollywood<\/em>, East Coast correspondent. I got the call to go down and interview Ricky Martin <\/strong>in Miami for his new album and Mariah Carey<\/strong><\/a> the night before,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know Barbara Walters<\/strong><\/a> had asked him about his sexuality. I\u2019m like, \u2018Wouldn\u2019t that be a big news maker?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

In the hotel lobby the night before the interview, he took an informal poll to find out what people wanted to know about the singer, and they wanted to know if he was gay.<\/p>\n

When he finally sat down for the interview, Billy<\/strong> asked the question and Ricky<\/strong> quickly removed his microphone.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe gets up and he walks off the set, and I\u2019m sitting there going, \u2018Oh s\u2014,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018OK, I really feel badly.\u2019 I just feel badly because he was legitimately hurt, and I\u2019m not in the business of hurting people. I am in the business of figuring out who I am and where I\u2019m going. And you need to be able to make mistakes in life. Remember that people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Without microphones, Billy<\/strong> went to Ricky<\/strong> and apologized.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Ricky<\/strong>, I am so sorry for asking that question,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201c\u2018I don\u2019t know what I was thinking. It was a cowboy question. It was inappropriate. I\u2019m so sorry. And I promise you this will never see the light of day. I will smash that tape with a hammer.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He joked, \u201cI should have smashed another one.\u201d<\/p>\n
