Armchair Expert<\/em> podcast<\/a> interview, Gabrielle Union spoke about infidelity during her marriage to Chris Howard.<\/p>\n\u201cIn our first marriage, neither one of us felt like the marriage should get in the way of our dating,\u201d she admitted. \u201cA part of it was keeping up with his activities and I was like, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s what you\u2019re doing? Oh, you\u2019re gonna feel this one.’\u201d<\/p>\n
Gabrielle Union went on to explain: <\/p>\n
\u201cI just felt entitled to it, as well. I was paying all the bills, I was working my a\u2013 off and I felt like that\u2019s what comes, the spoils of riches.\u201d It took her time to realize that she and Howard didn\u2019t have much in common \u2014 except infidelity. They didn\u2019t really rub elbows. In fact, she was fairly dismissive of him \u2014 in part because of his youth. She also didn\u2019t feel that they were compatible.<\/p>\n
According to Union, she was enjoying the party while Wade was having a more serious, sober talk with friends. Once they had posed for photos at a benefit dinner, they went to further public events \u2014 showing some PDA on dates.<\/p>\n
Clearly, things were going well for them. <\/p>\n
After months together, they\u2019d decided to reveal their romance. This is a common (and often real) explanation for breakups, especially in the entertainment industry \u2014 where people are spending months filming our touring away from home.<\/p>\n
The two reconciled within just a few months.<\/p>\n

Hekimian\/Getty Images for NBC Universal)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nDwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union became engaged<\/h2>\n On December 21 of 2013, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union took to Instagram<\/a> to share the good news: \u201cShe said YES!!!\u201d<\/p>\nAs they would later share, Wade involved his children in the proposal, having them hold up signs that read \u201cWill you marry us?\u201d Wade\u2019s children had been pushing for the two to marry for two years.<\/p>\n
However, she turned to see Wade on one knee, presenting the ring (which you can see below). As soon as she realized that this was not a prank by the children but a real proposal, she knew her answer: yes<\/em>.<\/p>\nGabrielle Union married Dwyane Wade on August 30, 2013<\/h2>\n The couple held an intimate wedding in Miami, with close friends and family in attendance. Gabrielle Union also became a stepmom to Dwyane Wade\u2019s children.<\/p>\n
On November 7, 2018, they welcomed their daughter, Kaavia James, via surrogate, adding to their precious family.<\/p>\n
As a couple, Union and Wade have also won over countless fans through their devotion to their role as parents. Both Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union have been firmly in her corner, giving her the sort of support that all children deserve \u2014 but not all receive.<\/p>\n
Union and Wade have spoken in their own interviews and social media posts to affirm their love and support for Zaya, introducing her to fans. The family has also delved into advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n
As Gabrielle Union tweeted<\/a> for Zaya\u2019s coming out: <\/p>\n\u201cMeet Zaya. She\u2019s compassionate, loving, whip-smart and we are so proud of her. It\u2019s OK to listen to, love & respect your children exactly as they are. For Wade, it\u2019s about listening to his wife and supporting her as she pursues what she wants.<\/p>\n
And for Union, it\u2019s about not repeating the mistakes from their respective first marriages \u2014 and collaborating with each other. They \u201cmeet in the middle,\u201d as she puts it.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
