New York (AFP) \u2013 Groundbreaking rapper Missy Elliott<\/strong><\/a>, the late English chart-topper George Michael<\/strong><\/a> and rap-rock changemakers Rage Against the Machine<\/strong><\/a> are among this year\u2019s inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame<\/strong><\/a>, organizers announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n Eclectic rock experimentalist Kate Bush<\/strong><\/a> will also be inducted, as country icon Willie Nelson<\/strong><\/a>, rock-folk powerhouse Sheryl Crow<\/strong><\/a> and R&B group The Spinners<\/strong><\/a> round out 2023\u2019s class of new members.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Cleveland, Ohio, institution\u2019s chairman, John Sykes, emphasized that this year\u2019s crop of musicians \u201creflects the diverse artists and sounds that define Rock & Roll,\u201d and also coincides with a milestone year that includes the 50th anniversary of the hip-hop genre and country icon Nelson\u2019s 90th birthday.<\/p>\n Crow, Elliott, Michael and Nelson were on the ballot for induction into the prestigious music pantheon for their first time. Rap innovator Elliott made the cut in her first year of eligibility.<\/p>\n Artists can be inducted 25 years after their first commercial music release.<\/p>\n They are voted on by a body of more than 1,000 artists, music historians and industry veterans.<\/p>\n The new honorees will be formally inducted on November 3 in the Rock Hall\u2019s annual concert ceremony, which this year will return to Brooklyn\u2019s Barclays Center.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
