Love Island USA<\/em><\/a> viewers were in for a surprise when Cierra Ortega<\/strong> was suddenly no longer in the villa \u2014 but how did Nic Vansteenberghe<\/strong> react to his partner\u2019s departure?<\/p>\n

During the Sunday, July 6, episode, Nic admitted to the rest of the guys in the villa that he was confused about what would happen next<\/a> on the Peacock dating show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really know. I think now that my strongest connection has gone, I will figure it out from here,\u201d he explained. \u201cI was not expecting this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nic and Cierra explored their connection for the next four weeks in the villa until narrator Iain Stirling revealed on Sunday\u2019s episode that she \u201cleft the villa due to a personal situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cierra\u2019s exit came after a resurfaced post from her social media showed her using a racial slur. Following offscreen backlash, Cierra was removed from Fiji \u2014 similar to Yulissa Escobar<\/strong>, who was the first Islander removed from the villa earlier this season after clips of her using racial slurs on a podcast circulated online.<\/p>\n

With Cierra unable to access her phone, her parents addressed the scandal<\/a> via her social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been one of the most painful weeks of our lives. We\u2019ve seen the posts, the headlines, the hurt and the hate. And while Cierra hasn\u2019t seen any of it yet, we have. And so have the people who love her,\u201d read an Instagram Story on Sunday. \u201cWe\u2019re not here to justify or ignore what\u2019s surfaced. Cierra\u2019s loved ones requested that Love Island USA<\/em> viewers pull back on their intense<\/a> reactions, adding, \u201cWhat\u2019s happening online right now has gone far beyond [accountability]. The threats. The cruel messages. The attacks on her family, her friends, even her supporters, it\u2019s heartbreaking. It\u2019s uncalled for. No one deserves that kind of hate.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement emphasized that Cierra \u201chasn\u2019t had the chance to process any of this or speak for herself,\u201d concluding, \u201cBut we know our daughter. We know her heart. And when she returns, we believe she\u2019ll face this with honesty, growth and grace.\u201d<\/p>\n
