The rumors are true: Elon Musk has chosen NBCU leader Linda Yaccarino as the next CEO of Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Musk confirmed Yaccarino\u2019s new role in a tweet this morning, a day after he announced that he had completed his search for a new CEO.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app<\/a>,\u201d wrote Musk.<\/p>\n

Yaccarino announced<\/a> on Friday morning that she was leaving her role as chairman of Global Advertising & Partnerships at NBCU. Yaccarino worked at NBCU since 2011. Before that, she spent nearly 20 years at Turner as an executive vice president in advertising. In 2018, she was appointed by former president Donald Trump to the President\u2019s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s smart to put a well-known advertising executive at the helm of Twitter, since Musk\u2019s leadership has tanked<\/a> that key facet of Twitter\u2019s business. Musk said he will stay on as chairman and \u201cCTO, overseeing product, software & sysops.\u201d With erratic content moderation policies<\/a> and inconsistent, sometimes misleading verification systems<\/a>, Twitter has bled advertisers. The company has also laid off<\/a> critical teams for revenue generations, like its sales team.<\/p>\n

Musk and Yaccarino already seem to have a bit of a rapport. Last month, Yaccarino interviewed<\/a> Musk at an advertising conference in Miami, where she seemed complimentary of the business mogul.<\/p>\n

\u201cElon has committed to being accessible to everyone for continual feedback,\u201d she\u00a0said onstage<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s also opened up himself to also participate in the new transparency and safety rules he posted yesterday. Just remember, freedom of speech does not mean freedom of reach.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also pointed out to Elon that \u201cthe people in this room are [Twitter\u2019s] path to profitability.\u201d Since its inception, Twitter\u2019s most effective way to make money has been\u00a0advertising<\/a>, and Musk\u2019s attempts to\u00a0monetize the blue check<\/a>\u00a0have not been successful.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t know whether the two of them were in negotiations at the time, but Yaccarino seemed motivated to sanitize the Twitter brand, encouraging audience members to voice their concerns to Musk in an Q&A. She echoed Musk\u2019s viewpoint on freedom of speech as it pertains to advertisers, which is that freedom of speech doesn\u2019t mean \u201cfreedom of reach.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf freedom of speech, as he says, is the bedrock of this country, I\u2019m not sure there\u2019s anyone in this room who could disagree with that,\u201d Yaccarino said when interviewing Musk. \u201cCould I get a round of applause for that?\u201d<\/p>\n
