Demi Lovato<\/strong><\/a>, Jennifer Lawrence<\/strong><\/a>, Brooks Nader<\/strong><\/a> and more stars have inspired others to speak candidly about their periods.<\/p>\n For far too long, reproductive health issues were treated as taboo subjects, but public health experts and celebrities have helped make huge strides in normalizing discussions around the menstrual cycle.<\/p>\n Dakota Johnson<\/strong> got very real in 2019 when discussing the ways in which she struggled physically and emotionally during her cycle.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I\u2019m honest, my hormonal changes during my menstrual cycle are ruining my life,\u201d she told InStyle<\/em><\/a> at the time. \u201cEvery month. It\u2019s unbelievable. It\u2019s really f****** amazing. I can\u2019t get a grip on it. I\u2019m like, what? Every time, I\u2019m totally scandalized about what happens to my body and my brain. My boobs are like eight times the size they normally are. In a TikTok<\/a> video, the model spun around in her cap-sleeve black blouse with a long white skirt to reveal a small bloodstain on the skirt.<\/p>\n \u201cTries to be chic. Starts \ud83e\ude78 at Wimbledon,\u201d she joked.<\/p>\n The \u201cCool for the Summer\u201d singer told People<\/em><\/a> that her mom and sister celebrated when she revealed that she\u2019d gotten her period for the first time.<\/p>\n \u201cI told my mom and my sister [when I got my first period] \u2026 and they actually embarrassed me so bad,\u201d she joked in 2015. \u201cMy sister folded a poster board in half and made a card out of it and drew pictures, and it said, \u2018Happy Period Day!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Lovato went on: \u201c[My sister] drew stick figures and kisses, and she used red markers \u2026 I have a pretty good sense of humor, so on one hand, I was totally embarrassed, and on the other, I thought it was awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n The Hunger Games<\/em> actress explained to Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/em><\/a> that her period has presented fashion challenges since it tends to occur right at the peak of awards season. Lawrence famously went with a \u201cPlan B\u201d dress for the 2016 Golden Globes to avoid discomfort.<\/p>\n \u201cPlan A was a dress that I couldn\u2019t wear because awards season is synced with my menstrual cycle, and it has been for years,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was loose at the front. And I didn\u2019t have to worry about sucking anything in. The other dress was really tight, and I\u2019m not going to suck in my uterus. They get really big when it\u2019s that time of the month,\u201d Gigi explained.<\/p>\n Jenner nodded along and even joined in saying \u201cthat time of the month\u201d with Hadid, indicating that she may have had similar experiences.<\/p>\n Dunham has spoken about undergoing a hysterectomy in 2017 following her endometriosis diagnosis. (According to the Mayo Clinic<\/a>, endometriosis is a condition that results from the \u201cinner lining of the uterus [growing] outside the uterus.\u201d It can cause severe pain during menstrual cycles.)<\/p>\n The Girls<\/em> creator told The Times U.K.<\/em> <\/a>that the medical procedure presented its own challenges<\/a> for her viability to carry a child, since her uterus, cervix and one of her ovaries were removed.<\/p>\nBrooks Nader<\/h3>\n
