\t\t<\/p>\n Lena Dunham<\/strong><\/a> is responding to criticism about the show that jumpstarted her career. <\/p>\n The 39-year-old actress and writer spoke to The Independent<\/em><\/a> recently about Girls<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, the HBO<\/strong><\/a> series that made her famous. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Girls<\/em> aired from 2012 through 2017 on HBO and starred Lena<\/strong>, Allison Williams<\/strong><\/a>, Adam Driver<\/strong><\/a>, Zosia Mamet<\/strong><\/a>, Jemima Kirke<\/strong><\/a>, and others. According to Lena<\/strong>, the show\u2019s title set the show up to disappoint viewers when it came to diversity. <\/p>\n \u201cI think one of the profound issues around Girls<\/em> was that there was so little real estate for women in television [then] that if you had a show called Girls<\/em>, which is such a monolithic name, it sounds like it\u2019s describing all the girls in all the places. And so if it\u2019s not reflecting a multitude of experiences, I understand how that would be really disappointing to people,\u201d Lena<\/strong> told The Independent<\/em>.<\/p>\n Lena<\/strong> is the co-creator, director, and executive producer of Netflix\u2019s upcoming show Too Much<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.
