\t\t<\/p>\n You may be surprised to learn that Nicholas Hoult<\/strong><\/a>, who portrays supervillain Lex Luthor in this month\u2019s new Superman<\/em><\/strong> film, actually auditioned for the superhero role as well!<\/p>\n Now, writer\/director James Gunn<\/strong><\/a> is explaining why Nicholas <\/strong>wasn\u2019t right for Superman, who is played by David Corenswet<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cA lot of time casting is finding the right person for the right role. Most people [auditioning for Superman] weren\u2019t doing anything wrong, they just didn\u2019t fit how I envisioned this Superman to be. Nicholas Hoult<\/strong> auditioned. He\u2019s a great actor. Some might say he\u2019s better than David<\/strong> in certain ways, but he just didn\u2019t fit the role. That\u2019s why he didn\u2019t get that,\u201d James <\/strong>explained on \u201cJake\u2019s Takes.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n He added, \u201cAs much as you can transform yourself as a person, Nicholas <\/strong>is just more controlled. One of the things we were doing was mixing and matching Lois and Clark actors when we were auditioning them. I wanted to make sure we had that chemistry right. The truth is Nicholas<\/strong>, who is a more controlled actor, had a really good chemistry with another Lois who was less controlled. They were opposites. David <\/strong>had better chemistry with Rachel [Brosnahan]<\/strong><\/a> because she\u2019s a very controlled actor and David<\/strong> is a little bit more loose.
