Stronger than ever! Michael J. Fox<\/strong><\/a> and wife Tracy Pollan<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s lasting love has helped them navigate the biggest challenges, including his battle with Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Back to the Future<\/em><\/a> star received his diagnosis in 1991, three years after he married Pollan. While reflecting on his health journey<\/a> in the trailer for his 2023 documentary, Still<\/em>, Fox remembered breaking the news to his spouse.<\/p>\n \u201cI told Tracy \u2026 \u2018In sickness and in health,\u2019 I remember her whispering,\u201d the Canadian actor said in a voiceover. \u201cNo one outside of my family knew. \u2026 But all those years of hiding was shaking me awake.\u201d<\/p>\n The couple met while working together<\/a> on season 4 of Family Ties<\/em> in 1985. Pollan played Ellen Reed, the love interest of Fox\u2019s Alex P. Keaton. Their real-life romance officially began after they reunited on the big screen<\/a> for the drama Bright Lights, Big City.<\/em><\/p>\n Fox and the New York native made their red carpet debut<\/a> at the 39th annual Emmy Awards in 1987, where he won the trophy<\/a> for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Family Ties<\/em>. He proposed later that year.<\/p>\n The \u201980s icon put a playful spin on the frenzy that surrounded his 1988 nuptials in an essay penned for Esquire<\/em>. \u201cI got married last summer and the reviews were terrible,\u201d Fox wrote one year after tying the knot. \u201cNow, bad reviews I can normally handle \u2014 you put your work out there and anybody can take their shot. But Tracy and I had never conceived of our wedding as part of our oeuvre.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite planning to exchange vows \u201cas far from Hollywood\u201d as they could get \u2014 the ceremony took place in Vermont \u2014 they couldn\u2019t avoid the attention. \u201cOblivious to all the madness going on outside, Tracy and I danced the night away,\u201d Fox gushed.<\/p>\n After decades in the spotlight, the duo\u2019s love for one another<\/a> only grew deeper. Fox surprised Pollan with a romantic Parisian getaway in 2011<\/a> in honor of their 23rd wedding anniversary.<\/p>\n \u201cTracy is an art fanatic, so we walked miles to gallery after gallery after gallery,\u201d the Spin City<\/em> alum exclusively told Us<\/em> after the trip. \u201cI love to see her love to do what she loves to do, which is look at art, but it wore me out!\u201d<\/p>\n The Michael J. Fox Foundation creator and Pollan \u2014 who share children Samuel, Aquinnah, Schuyler and Esm\u00e9 \u2014 have remained each other\u2019s biggest champions<\/a> over the years. While accepting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 2022 Governors Awards, the Good Wife<\/em> alum \u2014 who previously retired from acting \u2014 sent a special shout-out<\/a> to the Inventing Anna<\/em> star.<\/p>\n \u201cTracy made it clear she was with me for the duration,\u201d he said on stage, later gesturing to his trophy. \u201cI cannot believe I have been standing here for this long, it\u2019s a miracle. I cannot walk and carry this thing. But I ask Tracy to once again carry the weight.\u201d<\/p>\n
