Apple had its most successful box office opening to date with the Brad Pitt-starring F1: The Movie<\/b>, which picked up $55.6 million at the box office this weekend. They’ve previously released other big budget films like Napoleon<\/b> and Killers of the Flower Moon<\/b> to underwhelming totals, but something clearly clicked with this film.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the other new release of the weekend, M3GAN 2.0<\/b>, only did 1\/3 of its predecessor’s opening weekend take with $10.2 million, for a fourth place finish. It’s a disappointing result for a sequel to a film that became a viral sensation before it even opened. It is worth considering that the first installment did open in January, a month with much less competition. <\/p>\n
Second place at the box office belonged to the live-action How to Train Your Dragon<\/b>, now in its third weekend of release, with a $19.4 million take this weekend bringing its grosses to $200 million domestic. In third place was Pixar’s Elio<\/b>, which fell 49% in its second weekend to $10.7 million.<\/p>\n
28 Years Later<\/b> brought in $9.7 million in its second weekend, for a total domestic gross of $50.3 million so far on a $60 million budget.<\/p>\n
In indie news, A24’s Materialists<\/b> brought in $3 million in its third weekend, crossing the $30 million mark domestically. <\/p>\n
