He succeeded, creating a timeless thriller that still holds up in 2025.<\/p>\n<h3>What is \u2018Red Eye\u2019 About?<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Red Eye (2005) - Trailer\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sgi2XSaZeLs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/rachel-mcadams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Rachel McAdams<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/cillian-murphy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Cillian Murphy<\/strong><\/a> were still establishing themselves as stars when they co-headlined <em>Red Eye<\/em>, and the film hinges on the chemistry and tension they brought to the screen.<\/p>\n<p>McAdams plays Lisa Reisert, a woman whose airplane seatmate, Jackson Rippner (Murphy), has sinister intentions if she doesn\u2019t help him assassinate a high-profile target. Most of the story takes place on the flight, and that\u2019s one of the reasons why <em>Red Eye<\/em> is so riveting. Copycat, a thriller starring Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter, is celebrating its 30th anniversary by breaking into Netflix\u2019s top 10 most popular movies. Netflix is also celebrating the legacy of director Alfred Hitchcock [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>\u2018Red Eye\u2019 Creates Exceptional Tension<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Red Eye (2\/10) Movie CLIP - If You Want Your Dad to Live (2005) HD\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1MnPXQSWAJo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>By keeping the film\u2019s action largely contained to a single location, <em>Red Eye<\/em> constantly ratchets up the intensity for Lisa as she tries to get out from under Jackson\u2019s control. The leverage Jackson has over Lisa involves the fate of her father, Joe (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/brian-cox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Brian Cox<\/strong><\/a>), and that leaves her scrambling to find a way to thwart Jackson and save her dad\u2019s life at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Although Lisa\u2019s plane ride from hell inevitably comes to an end, many of the movie\u2019s best scenes take place there. That gave <em>Red Eye<\/em> a unique hook that separates it from other thrillers.<\/p>\n<h3>Rachel McAdams Has Real \u201cFinal Girl\u201d Energy<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Red Eye (5\/10) Movie CLIP - Pen Stabbing (2005) HD\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YaLewAfBoU0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Final girls are typically the heroines who live through the end of a horror film. Craven created more than a few during his long career, but Lisa may be his first final girl to transcend the horror genre. McAdams was perfectly cast for her ability to project vulnerability and strength during her performance as Lisa. In the meantime, there are plenty of scary flicks to enjoy from the comfort of your own home via the most popular streaming services. Hulu, for example, has Oddity, a [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>McAdams plays Lisa differently before she gets on the plane, as her encounter with Jackson at the airport seems like the beginning of a rom-com. The tonal shift of everything that happens after that required McAdams to shift her performance as well, and she remains believable throughout. By this point, he had starred in <em>28 Days Later<\/em> and appeared as Scarecrow in <em>Batman Begins<\/em>. Those were very good movies, but <em>Red Eye<\/em> allowed Murphy to take things to a new level as Jackson, one of the most intimidating villains he\u2019s ever played.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a subtle shift early in the movie when Jackson goes from flirty potential one-night stand to an obvious threat to Lisa, but she doesn\u2019t perceive it until she\u2019s already caught up in his web. All of his scenes afterwards establish Jackson as a villain who can back up the threats he makes towards Lisa and her father. He\u2019s no supernatural killer, but he doesn\u2019t have to be one to be truly menacing. Instead, Jackson is an ultra-vigilant villain who always takes the time to assert his dominance over Lisa.
