Even <em>Tomorrowland<\/em>, a big-budget live-action film from the director of<em> The Incredibles<\/em>, <strong>Brad Bird<\/strong>, screenwriter <strong>Jeff Jensen<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/lost-10th-anniversary-reunion-panel-at-paleyfest-5-highlights-and-revelations-2014173\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Lost<\/em> co-creator <strong>Damon Lindelof<\/strong><\/a>, failed to ignite at the box office fully.<\/p>\n<p>For years, <em>Tomorrowland<\/em> wasn\u2019t even available to stream on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/media-network\/disney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disney+<\/a>, and it felt like Disney was burying the film.<\/p>\n<p>However, <em>Tomorrowland<\/em> has since been released from movie jail and it\u2019s currently available to stream on both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/media-network\/hulu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hulu<\/a> and Disney+. While other streamers seem to pad their lineup with low-budget schlock, Hulu has added films like the incredible sci-fi action flick Edge of Tomorrow and the 2004 revenge thriller Man on Fire. Most of Hulu\u2019s films from the previous month are still on the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>\u2018Tomorrowland\u2019 Is a Throwback Disney Movie<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tomorrowland (film) (2015) - Pin-Ultimate Experience scene - Casey touches the pin\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wDGFgiFckgo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to say whether this was an intentional choice by Bird and his collaborators, but <em>Tomorrowland<\/em> plays like an updated version of the live-action movies Disney used to make in the \u201970s and \u201980s, like <em>Escape to Witch Mountain<\/em> and <em>Flight of the Navigator<\/em>. The story walks a fine line by placing a child or a teenager on a quest that puts them in danger without veering out of PG territory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Britt Robertson <\/strong>plays Casey Newton, a young woman who gets a glimpse of Tomorrowland \u2014 a breathtaking futuristic city in an alternate dimension \u2014 before discovering that she has to go back there to save the world from doomsday. In order to do so, Casey needs to find Frank Walker (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/george-clooney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>George Clooney<\/strong><\/a>), an inventor turned recluse who was exiled from Tomorrowland decades earlier.<\/p>\n<h3>Robertson and Clooney Have Great Chemistry Together<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TOMORROWLAND MOV\u0130E : George Colooney Flying Banyo Scene HD\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vGJ2wLjYls4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While the film takes its time to get Casey and Frank together, the story finally comes to life when that happens. Frank is kind of a cautionary tale for Casey. Hulu\u2019s primary attraction this month is The Bear season 4, as the hit series featuring Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and more returns on June 25. After the success of Prey [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Cassidy\u2019s Athena also has a large role in the film, and she\u2019s very enjoyable as the child-like robot. But it\u2019s Robertson and Clooney who really carry the movie together. Casey brings out some of Frank\u2019s long-repressed optimism and reawakens the man he could have become. The actors are also very entertaining when they play off each other. If anything, the movie could have used <em>more<\/em> scenes of Robertson and Clooney together.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Tomorrowland\u2019 Has a Very Timely Message<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tomorrowland Apocalypse Speech\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Oi1rsHkpRLE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Audiences didn\u2019t outright reject <em>Tomorrowland<\/em> in 2015. A worldwide gross of $209 million would have been impressive if the film hadn\u2019t cost $180\u2013190 million to make and another $100 million to market. Losing an estimated $120-150 million got this film labeled a flop, but it\u2019s by no means a failure. <em>Tomorrowland<\/em> has its issues \u2014 particularly with its pacing and occasionally over-written exposition scenes \u2014 but it succeeds at getting its point across.<\/p>\n<div id=\"news-block\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form  \">\n<div class=\"newsletter-signup__success\" aria-live=\"polite\">\n<h3>Thank You!<\/h3>\n<p>You have successfully subscribed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>The Governor of Tomorrowland, David Nix (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/hugh-laurie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Hugh Laurie<\/strong><\/a>), never accepts the truth that Casey and Frank present to him. Casey repeatedly proves that humanity doesn\u2019t have to hopelessly march to its own demise. That\u2019s ultimately the message of the film. Ordinary people don\u2019t have to lose themselves to feelings of helplessness and despair.
