The rocker, 75, is famous for his attacks on the US president, and has now called out what he described as the collapse of US political standards and leadership.<\/p>\n
Speaking to The Sunday Times, he said about Trump\u2019s reign in the White House and the current political climate in the States: \u201cIt\u2019s an American tragedy.\u201d <\/p>\n
Trump, 79, has responded to Bruce\u2019s previous criticisms from Bruce by branding the singer a \u201cdried out prune\u201d who \u201cought to keep his mouth shut until he gets back in the country\u201d.<\/p>\n
Clearly unmoved by Trump\u2019s comments, Bruce continued his criticism in his Sunday Times interview, saying: \u201cWe\u2019re living through a terrible moment in history, where Congress has neutered itself and the boundaries that once curtailed this type of leadership have disintegrated.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cThe pure incompetence of (the administration) may carry the seeds of its own destruction. But I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen. I haven\u2019t lived through a time like this in my entire life and I\u2019m 75 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking on the topic of fame and his decision to return to his home state of New Jersey, Bruce explained how staying connected to his roots has helped him remain grounded. <\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI don\u2019t believe we lose any part of ourselves. The first 20 years shape you, maybe longer in my case because I signed a lot of bad deals and at 30 I still only had $20,000 in the bank. I remain curious about the world.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd coming back to New Jersey is the best decision I ever made, because it means I\u2019m in the community. I know the mayor, the priest, the barber. I\u2019m friends with the guys I was in bands with at 15, and we\u2019ll meet down at the pizza parlour once a year. Maintaining those connections is a joyful part of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nReflecting on his decades-long music career, Bruce also said he\u2019s learned from those who came before him. \u201cOf course, and I was lucky enough to have Elvis, The Beatles and Bob Dylan, to follow in their footsteps \u2014 or not follow in their footsteps,\u201d he said. \u201cFrom there I learnt how important it was not to lose focus on who I am or the work I\u2019m doing. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt\u2019s more important than the money, although it\u2019s great to get paid well. It\u2019s more important than the fame, although that can be fun too, and a nuisance on occasion.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cI simply wanted to write great songs, play great shows and have a conversation with a great audience. It is what I\u2019ve dedicated my life to doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
