Model Kate Kope<\/strong> is not here for fat-shaming \u2014 even when it\u2019s subtle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s nothing quite like getting humbled on your early morning @delta flight,\u201d Kope, 27, captioned a TikTok video<\/a> shared earlier this week, in which she detailed an interaction she claimed she had with a woman sitting next to her on a plane.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you ever want to feel better about yourself \u2014 I got off a flight the other day and the woman sitting next to me asked what I did for a living,\u201d Kope detailed in the video. \u201cAnd I said, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m a curve model. Like, you know, plus size but not really \u2014 curve, that\u2019s what they call it now in this era.\u2019 And she goes, \u2018Oh, can I see your Instagram?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI was trapped \u2014 I didn\u2019t want to show her, but I had no choice, so I show her my Instagram, she\u2019s going through it, reels full volume, let everyone on the plane know of my embarrassing reels that I have to post for work, and she pulls up a photo of me in lingerie and she goes, \u2018Oh, don\u2019t worry, you\u2019re not that fat.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThere\u2019s no shame in loving your body. Thankfully, more Hollywood stars than ever before are preaching that message, and they won\u2019t let body-shaming comments slide anymore. Lizzo has been vocal about trying to help people accept all body sizes. \u201cI want to normalize my body. And not just be like, \u2018Ooh, look at this cool [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The woman\u2019s comment, according to Kope, is an example of what is wrong with the United States\u2019 beauty standards, especially when those standards are applied to women.<\/p>\n

In an interview with People<\/em> <\/a>published on Sunday, June 22, the model said she was not surprised by the exchange or the woman\u2019s comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m used to people not quite knowing what to say when I tell them I am a curve model,\u201d Kope told the outlet. \u201cIn person, I am not at all what someone would consider as \u2018curvy\u2019 or \u2018plus-size,\u2019 so an awkward reaction often happens. I think people almost want to comfort me and let me know that I\u2019m not fat, as if I have allowed the fashion industry to convince me otherwise for labeling me as a \u2018curve\u2019 model. So, I don\u2019t take their inappropriate fractions to heart.\u201d<\/p>\n
